« on: January 26, 2017, 05:28:01 am »
My flir E40 not new and focus too loose.
I add damping oil to the focus foam. I do not know is right.

The focus damping very good now.

You need a high kilopoise oil, which is an oil ( most commonly a silicone oil) that is very thick, and which is still going to be very thick from around -20C to around 70C for there, or use a silicone grease. Very commonly used on optics as a damper.

I check the datasheet as silicon oil.
  Operating temperature:0-120C

Good enough, will work there. You get some crazy high viscosity oils used as motor drive damping, they were common on old Micropolis hard drives as stepper actuator damping in a mass damper on the shaft end. No effect in slow, but rapid stepping was damped down quite effectively and it reduced resonances in the drive head assembly quite well.
