This sheet was a free sample I got from LCR Hallcrest - liquid-crystals.com   They are in Glenview, IL, here in the USA. They also have a UK office.

They have a lot of different applications that use them. They respond to temperature changes almost instantly.

It seems to me that for electronics applications, cheap and reusable liquid crystal sheets likely work almost as well as an expensive thermal camera in many situations. 

You can also use it for finding leaks around windows.

Yes, its the same concept, but Edmund's offering is way overpriced! 

These plastic sheets are not suited for being used with lenses. However in a semi contact / radiant heat sensing application they work well.

Don't think they are that useful as they (at least the ones I've seen)  only operate over a fairly narrow temperature range

Thats true, a very narrow range.. ten degrees C maybe. The ones I have go from 20-25 degrees C
