Relatively low resolution with a wide FOV. I think these devices are being aimed at presence detection and other applications that do not require great resolution, but benefit from having more pixels than a common PIR sensor. It is good to see such devices being developed as we will see more advanced thermal monitoring systems. The FLIR AX-8 thermal monitoring camera is only 80 x 60 pixels, uses a Lepton core and is really expensive ! Such cameras are widely used in industrial applications as an early warning system for mechanical overheating, such as motors and bearings.

Yes, it was developed for presence sensing in HVAC type appliactions, and spun off as a standalone product. I think teh guy said about $50. Not sure how easily available though

Can see them in stock at this supplier, but that's the only one I can find online. Pricing is £113 for the higher-res one, so much more than it should be (Lepton FS is way cheaper):

Anyone releasing new miniature cores at the moment has some stiff competition from the likes of Infiray and Guide Sensmart. We are witnessing a period of significant development in thermal imaging cores. Note that it is not a race to the highest resolution, or even the lowest price…. It is all about producing imaging cores that have acceptable resolution for general deployments and miniaturisation for easier integration into 3rd party products. The Infiray P2 camera could almost be seen as a demonstration platform for what has already been achieved with core miniaturisation whilst maintaining adequate imaging performance. It will be great if the development of affordable miniature thermal imaging cores continues now that the Pandemic crisis has abated. That event certainly drove development of competitively priced decent cores and even developed greater measurement accuracy techniques.
