Uni-T UTi165K or UTi260K-J, worth buying or hackable?
« on: April 06, 2023, 09:57:33 am »
Hi all,
I came across these two Uni-T thermal cameras today in a local store. They are selling the UTi260K-J (J is for Japanese version, whatever that entails, maybe charger voltage and language setting) for 11,000Yen (about US$85) and the UTi165K for 16,500yen (about US$125)

I'm interested in them for electronics diagnostic work, but they have a stated temperature range of 30-45 degrees C.

What is the utility of this sort of temperature range for electronics work and are these software limited and hackable to expand the temperature range by chance?

Where does all this test equipment keep coming from?!?

the 260k-j looks like a steal at that price. I have the Infiray c200 pro with same sensor, and it is great.

Grab a macro lens, and you're gold :)

I think I might just grab one tomorrow. It's within the impulse buy price range and I have been thinking of getting a thermal camera for a while now. :)

At the very least it will be something fun for my son to play with, help keep his interest in electronics and stuff. :D

Those are thermal cameras with a firmware tailored for COVID checkpoints. In other words fever detectors, that's why the t° range's so narrow (and stuck on emisivity of human skin). While you might be able to flash it with the firmware of a general purpose model (UTI165 or 260B - assuming you could find a dump of said firmware), it's very likely full calibration data isn't there to begin with.
I guess you could still use it as-is for short detection even with the displayed t° completely off.

I Got a C200 Pro and emisivity is a parameter that can be changed température goes up to 500°C.
