FLIR PM575 on eBay - possibly a good buy - not mine !
« on: March 09, 2019, 12:24:57 am »
There is a very nice condition FLIR PM575 on eBay at the moment. It is not one of mine and I have no connection to the seller or auction. It may go for a good price as some people are put off by these cameras age and format. Me ? .... I love them :)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flir-PM-575-Thermal-Imager/292993941629?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144

The battery packs are a relatively easy rebuild as they contain eleven size ‘A’ Mi-Mh cells that can be replaced with 2Ah or higher capacity size ‘AA’ cells very cheaply. No nasty battery management chips in these batteries. The camera normally stores its images to a PCMCIA flash card but you can use a CF to PCMCIA adapter and most CF flash cards of 512MB or smaller capacity.

I would normally buy this camera, but I am behaving myself these days so there will be no competition from me. I know how to repair and maintain these PM series cameras so there is at least some support for them via this forum :)

The images stored by these cameras may be viewed using the free Image Explorer 99 software that is available from the FLIR software download site. Researcher software may also be used but it is not free. Note that due to the era of this camera, software generally needs a Win XP platform on which to run correctly.

Full disclosure. I made contact with the seller of the camera and he is now a member of this forum as a result.

The PM575 sold for decent money yesterday.

Was the buyer a member of this forum ? If so, please feel free to ask any questions and I will see if I can help :)

The FLIR information archive site contains the manuals, software etc........

https://flir.custhelp.com/app/account/fl_downloads

To download software you need to register but it is no great problem. FLIR will provide an account. Downloading manuals does not require registration.

If the camera came with any software  user manuals, you should find the activation licence code on a label inside the front cover or fly sheet.

To view the captured images on a PC you use Image Explorer 99 which is a free program. FLIR Researcher is used for detailed image analysis. IIRC FLIR Tools does not support the image format, but I could be wrong.

It wasn't me, though I did bid. I dropped out around the £500 mark.
