FLIR PathfindIR (Version 1) command set ?
« on: August 21, 2024, 12:21:52 pm »
Does anyone have the command set for the original FLIR PathfindIR camera module please. The camera accepts control via a LIN interface but sadly I do not have a command set in my archive for this very neat little imaging core. Has anyone had any luck communicating with the PathfindIR V1 ?

I should state that this is the original Pathfinder V1 and not one of the later Autoliv versions that were locked down to prevent reuse outside the original vehicle. My unit takes power in and outputs video without any data communications required to operate. I would like to access the OEM options through the LIN interface though.

I'm also on the hunt for the Flir PathfindIR commands

This is all I've been able to gather;
The Full Feature PathFindIR camera is provided for OEMs and installers who want to utilize custom features for their applications. The additional features available on the Full Feature PathFindIR camera are selected and set via a LIN (local interconnect network) communications channel. The white wire in the standard PathFindIR System Cable (308-0159-00) provides the means to send the LIN commands to the PathFindIR camera.

The additional custom features provided by the Full Feature PathFindIR camera include the following:
• Selectable color palettes—white hot, black hot, sepia, and rainbow
• Selectable automatic gain control (AGC)—four AGC settings can be selected
• Additional signal outputs for 8-bit digital video data, clock signal, and sync signal requires OEM cable 308-0152-00.
• 2× Zoom—The central part of the image is magnified twice its normal size.
• LIN command to restore factory defaults

If you have purchased the Full Feature PathFindIR camera and need information on these functions, contact your FLIR representative and request the Electrical Interface Control Document (ICD) that describes the connector interface and the proper formatting of the commands controlling these additional functions. A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is required in order for FLIR to provide this document.

Figment,

Thank you for providing this insight into the features that are available via LIN control. As you state, the command set is being kept out of the public domain. Without such, the LIN input is pretty much useless to us. I would not be surprised to find a LIN to RS232 bridge board inside the Pathfinder V1 camera but I do not want to breach the weather proof sealing and lose the gas fill to find out at the moment. My Pathfinder is like new and came with the manual, CD’s, mounting bracket and original cable. It has clearly never been deployed on a vehicle. I may just settle for the default configuration or even pass the unit on to someone who has more use for it than me (hence why I do not want to dismantle this “as new” camera). I am not even certain that my Pathfinder V1 is the “full featured” version so efforts to control it could be pointless anyway.

There is a company that advertises a control module for the Pathfinder V1 but it is expensive (~$700) and limited in its functionality. The maker has created a LIN master and programmed the controller with the function commands for Palette selection etc.

I will likely start a new thread on the topic of my Pathfinder camera. I have identified and sourced the 12 pin connector and bought a couple for custom leads etc. They were not expensive at less than £5 each.

The NAVTV.com Pathfinder V1 camera controller may be found here…….
