First Timer Thermal Camera

So this week we got a new Fire truck for the volunteering I do at RFS in Australia.
There was a box with a dermal camera and there it was my first experience with one of these beauty.
Ive always wanted to see one or have on but at the time the cheapest was a few thousand and you would only see them on Discovery Mythbusters.


So I'm looking to get one for fun and also something I could use in the house, for some of my LED projects (to see how heat is spreading in the heatsink) and outside to spot animals and maybe humans when doing search and rescue.
I do have an android phone (Galaxy S7 Edge) so can use the attachable modules.

I had my eyes on the Flip C2 as it looks compact and sturdy. Also found a brand new one for $520 usd. Is that a good price?

But then after browsing a little bit of this forum i saw that many people have a ThermalExpert Q1. Which i have never head before but the specs seem to be really good, similar to the Therm-app which i would love to own but at $999 its a bit too much for my pocket oh the dream.


SO how much are these ThermalExpert Q1? Ive looked online but no place has price!
I wanted too spend under 600usd.

Thanks for that. And does the T.E. Q1 compare to the Therm-App?  What i really like about the therm-app is the ability to see at really far distances and it has a great quality image.

Sensor has the same resolution and images are really low noise and high in details so I don't see any advantages of Therm-App over TE Q1.

WOW. That's impressive! I want one bad now.
I assume the 13mm lens is an optional?

What about closer distances and seeing things through wall? Any video review of this product? I've looked on YouTube but there are only a few videos and none review it.

Comparing the Seek compact pro vs the TE Q1? They are similar specs and price. The Seek compact pro is also 15hz

The thermal expert is definitely ahead in terms of noise performance and actual usable resolution.

While the 15Hz of the Seek is a advantage, depending on what you're using it for more resolution and less noise is probably more important.

Also while I haven't used the ThermalExpert software, judging from mike's review thew Seek Pro's app is really shitty.

You'll only be able to get close to 15fps on top spec'd phone.
But from what I have seen image quality is nowhere near TE Q1.

While "Compact Pro" is a lot better than original Seek it's still noisy as hell...

Thanks for all the replies. The TE Q1 does seem to outperform the  Seek compact pro. The image is so sharp!
Can't wait to order. I hope the price has gone down a bit from  $499 now.

Today I received a letter from them.
q1-1000$, plus-1100$, pro-1300$.

Maybe someone will write to them about the prices?

Wow so they added 500$ to old prices...

Now it makes more sense to buy Therm-App because it comes with 19mm f/1.1 lens while basic TE Q1 has 6.8mm f/1.3 lens.
Or just get Flir E4 and hack it to E8+.

SeekThermal guys are probably opening champagnes right now...

Any way to  connect some of these cams to a screen, DVR, or RCA/BNC?

Flir One V2, SeekThermal, i3 ThemalExpert, Them-App can all work on linux so you could connect them to RaspberryPi model B which has RCA video out.
Or just use HDMI out on any RPI.

So i got my first camera! I was leaning towards the T.E Q1.

But then i gave up as i thought $499usd plus $60 shipping was too much for something that would be only for entertainment and would need to remove the case on my phone every time i needed to use the thermal camera.

On another note that cost me even more..... I got a Therm-App TH
Paid $999 ausd for a brand new unit (about $724usd). Which i think is a bargain (even though its a lot of money for me) And I think that if I get bored and don't end up using it anymore, I can always sell for what I got for it or maybe more as they retail for $1999usd (2700ausd here).
