Flir one android with wireless USB
« on: February 11, 2017, 09:56:14 am »
Hi all,
Is there a way to transform a flir one into a wireless device? I mean something to make a wireless bridge for usb connection between android smartphone and flir one.
Thanks in advance
Best regards

I have looked into this previously.

Sadly a USB wireless bridge is not common. The problem is that the end that connects to the accessory has to act in host mode and communicate over a wireless link at high speeds. With serial bridges it was easy as data rates were low and there was no need of a USB host.

I did see a USB bridge for sale once but it received poor reviews for link stability and it was expensive.

One way to create such a link may be to use a small computer such as an R-Pi as an intelligent host that in turn connects through to its wireless link and so to the computer or phone running the application.

There may also be the possibility of using one phone as the host and linking to another via the Wi-Fi connectivity. The application expects to see the camera connected to the OTG USB port though so a custom app may be required.

The perfect USB bridge would be transparent to the peripheral and host with a USB2 data rate. Sadly I know of no reasonably priced or reliable solution at the moment.

This can be done quite easily for thermal modules that are supported in windows. Windows app will "think" that device is connected trough USB...

I did it for my i3 ThermalExpert with free version of VirtualHere: https://www.virtualhere.com/home

Steps:

Install virtualHere server on raspberry pi by running:
Code: [Select]
wget https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/default/files/usbserver/vhusbdarm
chmod +x ./vhusbdarm
sudo ./vhusbdarm -b

Plug in thermal module in raspberry's usb.

Install windows client on a pc:
https://www.virtualhere.com/usb_client_software

Run it and right click on the thermal module and select "Use".

Now run your windows app and you have a wifi thermal camera.  :-+

Thanks for that really interesting information Frenky 👍

Sadly the F1G2 does not currently have a Windows App. There is a Linux version though.

Yes with linux VirtualHere client and one of the linux apps for Flir One that forum members have made it would probably work for Flir One too.
