E30 is here and I'm confused on the upgrading process
« on: January 25, 2019, 03:25:06 pm »
E30
2.23.14
49001-1801

So my new to me E30 arrived.  All works great.  I played with RNDIS, WinSCP and backed up all the files on the unit.  I understand there are a couple ways to upgrade these and have read nearly every post, but still have a couple questions.

I found the EZCCRC01 program and ran it with my serial number.  It created the e8.cfg file and I believe I can either use WinSCP or the FlirNetInstall.exe to "run" the file (once renamed to .fif, yes?  Will this e8.cfg file work on the E30?  I have seen some posts referencing the name change in a config file (e30 to e60) so not sure about that part.

Does the e8.cfg file as created by EZCRC01 program enable all the gadgets such as wifi, bluetooth, etc by default?  Another thread mentioned just doing minor edits to the original config (noise generator to 0, resolution to 320, zoom to whatever you choose) so just hoping to do this once and not play with it afterwards.

Thanks for your patience.

I'm not sure that an E8 cfg will work for an Exx. I found it easier to just modify each individual file myself and then rerun the CRC.

OK...so then I can just take the e8.cfg and pull the last 2 lines out for the CRC and serial, add them to my edited (backed up and copied) config.d file and ftp it back into the unit?

Looks like that idea is a no-go as the CRC will be different on the E30 config.d file.  So I grabbed the old crc01.exe, ran it after I edited a copy of my config.cfg, take the CRC and add it to the end of the file minding the CRF, etc. and then save and ftp this file back into the unit, power off, pull the battery , cold boot and all should be good to go?

Thanks!

You are editing the conf.cfg files, right? Because the config.d is a folder...

I'm unlocking my e30bx MK1, the older one with camera and flashlight covered, i'm following this guide:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/flir-e4-thermal-imaging-camera-teardown/msg561266/#msg561266

Mine works almost good, I'm messing around looking why there isn't any crossair and I cannot even add a new one.

I also read Gustavo's posts and felt it was one of the better as far as step by step for what I'm doing.

Thank you

I did see another guy had the crosshair disappear.  Electrotuna maybe?

Well, resolution worked fine, but lost the crosshair, no wifi/BT and I believe I lost another left side menu icon (can't remember what was there for sure)

I edited
config.d/conf.cfg
ui.d/conf.cfg
services.d/conf.cfg

Unit booted up fine after battery removal, etc.  I'm guessing I missed something?

Is editing confkit.rev to reflect E 60 (Mine says E30_B 1.1) required?

Thanks

Edited confkit.rev to E60
edited services.d/conf.cfg to match E60

No crosshair, no wifi/BT, menus missing, etc.  Resolution and noise are great.

no joy.

Any ideas?

These are the paths you should be editing:

\FlashFS\system\ui.d\config.d\conf.cfg
\FlashFS\system\appcore.d\config.d\conf.cfg
\FlashFS\system\services.d\config.d\conf.cfg

If you edited correctly, maybe you have a CRC issue. Double check spacing etc.

If that looks good, for the crosshair (spot) issue, double check these lines in the ui.d conf.cfg and make sure they are the same as this:

.caps.config.image.sysimg.irMarkers.spot.enabled bool true

.caps.config.image.sysimg.measureFuncs.spot.enabled bool true

Remember to re-run the CRC if you make any changes.
Your other missing items sound like incorrect editing of the conf.cfg files to me.

Yep, thanks.  To confirm, I am editing the files at the paths stated.

My ui.d\conf.cfg does not have either of those lines in the backups or the edited files (edited from the backup I pulled from the camera)

I may just put the old files back and ensure the camera will operate as before, then edit one item at a time to see what happens.

Found the lines you mentioned in appcore.d\conf.cfg

This is from the original, backed up file from my camera.

.caps.config.image.sysimg.irMarkers entry
.caps.config.image.sysimg.irMarkers.enabled bool false
.caps.config.image.sysimg.irMarkers.spot entry

.caps.config.image.sysimg.irMarkers.box.enabled bool false
.caps.config.image.sysimg.irMarkers.box.maxCount int32 0

Ok, so I started from scratch.  Put everything back and camera worked fine, crosshairs in place, etc.

Edited only these 2 lines in appcore.d\conf.cfg:

.caps.config.image.settings.resIR int32 320
.caps.config.image.targetNoise.targetNoiseMk int32 0

Resolution is 320 and noise is gone, but lost the crosshair and tools menu is empty save for "Remove all tools" or something like that.

I changed the noise to 5, same problems.
Changed resolution back to 160, same problems.

Pretty confusing.

ok...not sure what to make of this, but restarted the camera just now and I have a crosshair (at about the 10:00 position), zoom to 4X available (this isn't enabled in the conf files now) tools menu is all back, spot temp works again.

wtf?

Dunno, but if it's working, run with it. Maybe your first restart didn't take. I really don't like pasting in other people's files - for exactly the reason that you saw - errors/omissions, whatever. By the time you go through to check everything, might just as well edit your own.

To edit your own, just look at the entries to get an idea of what they do and change the false to true on whatever you want to use. Compare your entries to a modified file you got from someone else or just experiment on your own. Don't forget to re-run the CRC and after uploading the files make sure to remove the battery to do a full restart.

Ya, I tried to see other's files just for comparison, but had no intention of using them in mine.  I've been able to reset the crosshair to center, confirmed the images in Flirtools to be 320X240 (see attached image)

I just downloaded the appcore.d\conf.cfg file from the camera and here are the pertinent lines (no others were changed from original backups):

.caps.config.image.settings.resIR int32 160
.caps.config.image.targetNoise.targetNoiseMk int32 5
.caps.config.image.zoom.maxFactor double 1

Maybe just reducing the noise to near zero causes the images to be 320X240?

Spoke too soon.  Another reboot and I'm back where I was. :palm:

No crosshairs, tools menu empty, ugh.  I literally only turned the thing off and back on a few minutes later.

Figured it out... I was calculating the CRC incorrectly.  Resolution, Noise, Zoom, Menus, spot crosshair, tools menu now good to go.

Stupid mistake.

I have same issues with my e30bx, no crossair and so on, wifi e BT enabled but non usable.

I'll try re-calculating the CRC
