Disassemble XH09 without breaking?
« on: August 28, 2024, 08:34:50 am »
Hello,

I really love the XH09, however what I don't love is the X2 part of the device i.e the massive zoom it has.
I would like to break into the XH09 and replace the lens with a custom one to achieve a closer to 1-1.5x zoom instead, however for the life of me I can't get into the damn thing - its built outa something tough!
I don't wanna break this device due to how hard they are to find now, how do I get the module out of its shell safely? I was thinking heat but I could end up melting cables or wires on the inside, I tried prying around the device with no luck.
I also tried twisting the focus but it doesn't seem to do anything other then get stuck, so I don't think thats the way in either.

If you want to use your thermal camera as a measurement camera then the lens needs to be quite extensively calibrated to the sensor.

That´s probably why you don't find interchangeable lenses in this price range. You get a new Infiray P2 Pro for much less than a single lens + calibration.

What kind of replacement lens do you want to use?

just a standard Co2 ZNSE convex lens nothing special. Not really after temp reads and moreso after heat differences in a particular environment.

What focal length does your ZnSe-lens has? The CO2-laser lenses are that long that your FOV will be even smaller than with the original lens.

My advice: Don't risk the XH09. The lens assembly and calibration shutter are quite delicate. Even the cheapest $80 cellphone thermal imager will be of better image quality than misusing CO2-laser lenses for more than focal correction.

Well I have one that really is fairly long at 12mm, but I was hoping to find another with a small FL or even harvest a cheaper unit for a small FL like the P2.
The problem with the P2 is both resolution and HZ, the project I am using them for requires minimum 50hz and somewhat comprehensible footage resolution which the XH09 hits on the head nicely.
Is there an alternative camera that you know of that doesnt break the bank at 50hz with a smaller FL?
If  not, what are the chances of me breaking it if opened just to change the lens?
