[NEED HELP] Hikmicro B2L just died on me
« on: February 12, 2023, 12:49:07 am »
Hello guys.

First time to post my awful experience.
The firmware is the latest (Firmware_B2L_V5.5.15_220509)

As you can see the link below, when it powers on, after only 5 sec it just go freeze and dies.
Pressing power button to restart doesn't solve the problem and it completely go brick.

Is there any means to hard reset?
Since it doesn't show the menu bars nor I can reach on the menu or connect to Hikmicro viewer app, I don't have any means to update or revert firmware in normal way :(

I did a quick search but I couldn't find anyone has similar experience..
Maybe I have to tear down and connect UART to do hard reset? I see following astonishing work by Fraser and if it is only thing to do I am up for it.

Easiest Fix is RMA the camera and get a new one. That seems to be a known bug.

Why would you want to void the warranty? It's a new camera - send it back to the seller and request a fix or new one.

Thank you for your reply.

I thought it would be the firmware problem and any of other device would break down also.

The bug is after I update to the latest firmware(V5.5.15_220509 from V5.5.14 210929), before update there wasn't any problem.
After update, when I use only with lower thermal range, it works fine. The symptom occurred when I switch to higher temp range (100c-500c?) it just frozen then it became just like this ever since..

Regarding RMA unfortunately it was from eBAY and there wasn't any purchase receipt / warranty paper...

Seems like the update damaged something. They had lately issues with updates.
Contact the Hikmicro support.

I have asked my contact in Hikmicro and they are working on a solution. Maybe I will get a link for you a little later.

Hi markb1980

Thank you for the link. I am surprised they could update the firmware that quickly.
Unfortunately, It is too late for me because the thingy is, whenever I start the device, it goes freeze in 5sec after start up without showing any menu (nor I can access the menu like the video I post).
Therefore having new digicam.dav in the root folder does not trigger the automatically update (it goes brick before that..)

Could you ask your contact in Hikmicro about my situation? I wish there would be any hard kill switch with safe mode start, or hardwire the firmware from the beginning etc..

Thank you again for your trouble! I just hope I could unbrick this device anytime soon...

Usually that works because they flash the firmware before booting as far as I know...

Try contacting the support yourself. You can also join my FB-goup. There are 2-3 folks from Hikmicro.
