DSO5072P startup then freeze - help please
« on: August 28, 2020, 02:26:07 pm »
Hello, first post. I need some help, please.

As the title says, I have a Hantek DSO5072P. It's about two years old.

My issue - the unit starts up and then immediately freezes on some type of menu screen.

Here is a pic:

This is as far as it goes. It worked a week ago. None of the buttons or knobs do anything. It's frozen on what appears to be some kind of menu for horizontal view options? A few of the panel buttons are lit and stay on. I can't get it past this screen. If I cycle the start button quickly I can get it to reboot options, but none of the buttons work. F1, F2, F3...nothing.

Also, during the million times I've turned it on and off, sometimes a red error message pops up "FGPA does not match the app"...or something along those lines.

Please help me out here. How can I un-stick this thing?

Open it and try to see if there is any UART port that lets you see a boot log.

I would say something got corrupted...

Thank you for the quick reply!

I'm sorry, I am a complete noob and I don't know anything about UART ports or boot logs. How do I connect to this port and what would I do with a boot log?

But just as I sit here typing, there has been a new development. As the scope sits here next to me powered on and in it's frozen state, it's making this very fast clicking sound....like an electric rattlesnake. LOL. So weird.

Okay then, no more replies.

I guess I'll just buy another one.  :(

Any advice on a good beginner's scope that won't crap out in a couple years?

Maybe you could contact Hantek, describe the
problem and maybe they can suggest a solution.

I guess you already have looked at the forum:
https://www.eediscuss.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=44
Could you open it and post a photo of the circuit board?
Maybe someone could find the UART port?

And if you don't fix it, maybe you could put it up
for sale here; I'm pretty sure someone would like
to have a go.

No I had not seen that forum. Will try, thanks.

Sell it here? I don't feel good about selling something broken, even if I'm sure one of you tech wizards could fix it blindfolded. But maybe if I don't get anywhere with it I'll consider it.

This video shows how to connect to the UART:

Edit: and maybe you could check the PSU voltages?
