I'm looking for a signal/function generator, ~$200
« on: March 21, 2018, 09:40:11 pm »
As the headline says:
I need a new function generator and my demands are modest:
0...10 MHz output.
0...10 V output.
Square-, sine- and triangle-wave output (square-wave PWM adjustment and sawtooth would be nice extra features).

After Internet searching, I find very low-cost thingys that don't fit my needs, very high-priced parts that go into the high MHz range, or modules that fit into an existing 'scope (Siglent).

Does anyone have a suggestion for a reasonable function generator?

Your help is much appreciated.

Well then, sorry for the  :-//, I use him for "What about" not "confused", a good way to start is here:

It's about 20 threads down on the first page, right now, it's been popular.

There are bottom end Rigol and Siglent options that get close, especially on sale, but they'd be towards the top end of the budget.

I personally think those options would be better for your dollar, but the Agilent 33120A is commonly in that price range used on ebay, so if you're a fan of VFD displays, it could be an option.

I'm not a fan of any displays on a function generator, I just expect it to do its job.

Rigol I'll check out, the Siglent parts I've found all seem to be plug-in units for some 'scope.

Thanks.

Eh, I find it nice to be able to see the parameters you're adjusting and preview arb data and such.  I've got a Siglent SDG2082X and it gives you a demo view of the waveform, but there are enough individual adjustments that it helps to have them displayed on screen as a reminder.  Maybe you're picturing a much less complex generator of old with a couple dials and a few switches, but modern ones I think benefit from it.

In any case, the SDG800 and SDG1000 series signal generators are standalone from Siglent.  I believe they're advertising being able to be controlled via USB from their scopes, but I don't think they make a signal generator that is dependent on a controller.

They do but it's only compatible (at this time) with the new 4ch X-E's for Bode plots sweep source:

The single channel SDG810 is the cheapest that meets Benta's spec and it's a bit over budget at $282.

Well, good for you.
The ones I found at that price level were all shipped out of China or Hongkong, and frankly I'm happy to pay 25 Euro to avoid all the customs bother.

Got my FY6600-60 with 99EUR, delivery from Hamburg, unfortunately with firmware 3.1 and seller become dead :(, but with all the changes it actually quite good.
Let's see if the newly announced model from next month, FY6800 will have some advantages and extractable firmware.
Good luck with it @Benta, don't forget to solder the ground or if you're lazy like me, just connect a BNC caple to some nicely grounded boat anchor :).

 Cheers,
 DC1MC

If someone else in Germany is searching for a good source for the FY6600: On eBay seller "firstrate888" sells the FY6600 60MHz (eBay article number 263376494401) for 99,89 EUR incl. shipping from inside Germany (Frankfurt). No customs and quick delivery.
