Siglent SDG-2000X key bounce
« on: January 12, 2019, 10:06:09 pm »
I am quite happy with my new SDG-2042X, but have one little gripe: The rubber keys tend to "bounce", i.e. register multiple keypresses when I intend to press them just once. This is particularly annoying with the softkeys which have dual functions. E.g. the key to select output amplitude and offset voltage: If you press them another time, they toggle the input mode between amplitude/offset and high/low level, respectively. I have found myself setting wrong output levels quite a few times this way.

Did I just end up with a unit that is bad (in this respect), or do others have the same problem? Is this common enough to warrant a bug report to Siglent, who should be able to debounce the buttons better in a future firmware update?

Short of a firmware fix -- any known tweaks to reduce the button bounce?

I had a SDG1010 that occasionally did that, very annoying indeed. A different work style helped some to reduce the multi keys. I stripped it and looked for obvious faults but couldn't find any.
It was my suspicion the debounce circuitry wasn't right.
Never had another unit like it.  :-//

Has yours been like that since new ?

I reported about mine to tech support and they were gunna send me another keypad PCB for it but I sold it as well used at a much reduced price. AFAIK the buyer has been happy with it.

BTW, do you have the latest FW installed, V2.01.01.23R8 ?

Haven't noticed it on my unit, sounds like it may be some sort of QA thing.

Thank you all!

@tautech: Yes, my SDG has behaved like this since I received it -- which was only 3 weeks ago. I just checked, and it does have the latest firmware installed, V2.01.01.23R8.

I just played with the buttons some more, and realized that it's really mainly one of them which is giving me problems: The 3rd softkey from the left, which happens to be the offset/low level selector when setting waveform parameters. All other buttons hardly ever bounce, the 3rd one does it all the time.

Obviously the unit is still under warranty, and I could contact Batronix and ask for a replacement. They have a good reputation for customer service. But I am tempted to try and avoid the hassle and delay of shipping the unit, and have a look myself first. With only one button affected, it seems likely that there is simply some piece of debris in the wrong spot...

I don't want to risk my warranty of course. How invasive is the procedure to get to the contacts? The service manual suggests that you can't open the front from the outside, but have to open the unit, remove the front panel unit, and then get to the keypad from the back -- is that the best (only?) way?

Update: Some strategic finger-snapping against the affected button seems to have improved things a lot! Maybe indeed a piece of debris, which I managed to dislodge?

Great !  :-+
However I'll ask some questions and point tech support here.

WRT to accessing the keypad externally, I don't think you can but I have never had any X model AWG's apart.
Let's see what tech support has to say and BTW by contacting them about this places your issue on record.  ;)

BTW, can you please post the SN#, all but the last 4 digits.
That way Siglent can see the production run and HW version.
TIA.

Sure. The serial number is SDG2XCAQ2Rxxxx.

Thank you for reaching out to Siglent!
Maybe there's something to be learned for future production.

Had the button bounce on several buttons about 1 month ago during extensive use when I first purchased.  Swore at lousy debounce software and lived with it.

Of course now that someone has pointed this out and I want to report mine, I can't get it to jump |O

V2.01.01.23R8

What serial # do you want?   :-//
The one reported on the system info screen: SDG2XCAXRxxxx
or the one printed on the sticker on back:     SDG2XCAX2Rxxxx

Really like the unit though.

I had a similar problem with the rotary encoder of my SPD3303D: while turning it, settings were randomly jumping up and down. I replaced it by a good quality one and this is now a lot better but still happens. So I guess their debouncing software is not very good  :(

Same issue on mine : I didn't use my SDG for a year or more, and now I'm stuck with this rotary encoder issue: while turning it, settings were randomly jumping up and down. This is really annoying. Unfortunately mine is probably out of warranty, so if you have any idea about the issue I'd love some feedback ;-)

Please ensure your firmware is updated to the latest version 2.01.01.35R3B2.
Both the encoder and keypad issues have been addressed with firmware.
