What's the verdict on the new cheap LCR tweezers?
« on: September 11, 2024, 02:58:09 pm »
I see lots of threads about the following tweezers:

Mastech MS8911
ZOYI ZT-MD1
FNIRSI LCR-ST1
3S QPL

There is lots of info to sift through.
Is there a consensus on which is the best of the cheap tweezers?
Which would you choose?

Hi
A completely logical start to this topic. Before choosing tweezers, you need to decide on its parameters and where it will be used. After all, the scope of application of tweezers is very wide. Conventional measurements, repair, research, selection and sorting of various components. In-circuit measurements, component identification, search for faulty components.

That is way to much detail for these cheap tweezers.  I'm talking just in general as far as quality, fit and finish.  I guess having at least some sort of accuracy would be nice also.  :scared:

The cheap tweezers are cheap. If you want some kind of accuracy, get the well respected Shannon ST42. They're inexpensive for what they are, and excellent at what they do.

You came at it from an even more interesting side. The quality of the case, assembly, tips, mounting method, battery. In general, there is something to talk about. And the 3S QPL tweezers are still a dark horse for me, although I have seen Chinese videos.

The ZT-MD1 is dirt cheap and I like it a lot: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256807361654004.html

More expensive is probably even better, but I don't need that at the moment.

Here I have taken a few measurements using the new "save and export" feature.
But I'm not sure whether the measurements written on the board are more accurate than the ZT-MD1.

LCR ST1 read calibrated components as follows:

L - 779.5uH as 785.1uH  (0.6V 1KHz)
C - 120.16 nF as 121,3nF (0.6V 1KHz)
R - 40.192 Kohm as 40.18 Kohm (0.6V 1KHz)

On diode test will fail, because they use the same signal (0.6V/ AC !!!) used for RLC test to open a diode. So the device will display 0.65V in both directions.

Good for a quick test of LCR components but not a replacement for a good LCR tester.
