Wait for Rigol DS2072-A ?
« on: October 18, 2013, 11:00:45 pm »
Is there going to be enough of a difference between the Rigol DS2072 and the DS2072-A version to warrant waiting another month or so? Or should I go ahead and get the DS2072 one now?

Thanks,

I'm just about to buy one. John at Emona said I would get the "A" version which he is expecting in stock fairly soon. So maybe it's not such a long wait?

I'm under the impression that they will be shipping in early December. A nice Christmas gift for you :)

"Fairly Soon" is such a relative term. Especially if you're waiting in line to.... <anyway>

Did he put any expectations on ETA?  Also, do products tend to hit Australia before US?

After finally deciding on Make/Model/Budget, hard to wait, waiting... waiting...

It would be a GREAT Christmas Gift! I promise to be good for the rest of the year!

No. His exect words: "I think they are due in soon"

Also, do products tend to hit Australia before US?
No Idea.

TEquipment in the US is taking orders now for the DS2072A, with shipping estimated late in November.  But it is still unclear (from the lack of confirmation on this forum) whether the DS2000A models will be compatible with the upgrade techniques discussed in several threads here.  It is possible the new models may have changes that prevent these techniques from working.

Although waiting to see whether the DS2072A will be compatible is certainly an option, it is also quite likely that once the "A" models are shipping, the DS2072's will be phased off the market.  This has been my dilemma and, consequently, I decided to order the 2072 instead of the 2072A.  But there are some determined minds at work on this forum, and there will undoubtedly be exciting things happening with the new models as well.

I would hope that the DS2072 would be discounted once the -A hit the market.

Probs not, with the unlock software going around they are more likely withdraw it altogether or sell it at the same price as the "all options" version.
