Rigol DS1074Z Rack mount
« on: November 12, 2013, 12:33:15 am »
Well, I am planning my DIY 19in instrument rack, and are there any rack mount clones for the ds1074z? $137 seems like an awful lot.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Not quite as elegant, but you could put it on a rack mount shelf:

Don't be fooled by the low price.  Monoprice sells excellent quality stuff.  This shelf is really heavy duty.

I'd agree with JDubU's recommendation... both on the shelf, and Monoprice.

There's a big advantage to putting it on a rack shelf... you can grab and go if you need to use it outside your lab.  And move it around, when the mountain can't come to Mohammed.

Screwing it into a rack isn't a great option for a scope, IMO, unless it's there strictly to monitor some fixed set of signals, also permanently mounted  in the rack.

I have a ds2072 in a rack shelf, but the devil is in the details.

like this:

a) Deep with a bar at bottom to prevent drops. Do not mount the front bar

b) 2U shelf but you must take 4.1U, don't mount the front bar.

c) 1mm of foam to avoid sliding when push buttons&knobs

d) lateral grooves help you put it on one side without interrupting the fan air flow.
