Banggood have started rebranding some equipmet under their "Mustool" brand.

One was sent to me for review and it seems like a reasonable offering for the price - certainly on a par with the Iso-Tech, Tenma and Uni-T meters at this price point. Input protection is lacking, and the continuity test is VERY slow but everything else seems really quite good.

The product link is here: http://bit.lc/48Vb
There's a special price for mobile app users, but if you order on the regular website use coupon code: 52ecb1 for discount to US$49.99

This looks very much like a rebadged Hyelec MS8236:

(There also is a Mastech meter with the same model number but different features)

The Hyelec is available from AliExpress, Banggood and elsewhere from around $40/£28.

Thanks for the review, I was looking at the Hyelec as an option to the UT61E, do you think the continuity response will improve using better probes? have you tested using the Fluke probes?, I did the test myself with an de UT210 clamp, and with the included probes continuity test was 1 sec or more but using the Fluke probes was instantly.

I see you tested the Mustool probes on the Fluke and was very fast, so I don´t have too much hopes, but who knows  ;D

Hi HK3R, no the meter is just plain slow in continuity mode. It looks like it's autoranging rather than staying in the 600R range which is why it's so slow.

The UT61E is probably a better option if you use the continuity mode regularly.

Does the meter have an internal memory for logging?

Apparently the meter does measure hfe using the adaptor plugged between 10A and mA sockets (weird combination, no COM reference?)
See page 30 http://img.banggood.com/file/products/20160601020726MUSTOOL_MT826_UserManual.pdf
What do you think is its 'principle of operation'?

Diode test mode provides a current to the 2 leads, and inside the adaptor there is a resistor from either collector to base for NPN  or a resistor from collector to base for PNP, and 2 sockets labelled as required. Exactly the same as the method used on the 830 clone meters, just with a removable socket. The meter provides a current source to the mA socket using the mA mode sense resistors to read it, and feeds the current into the normally grounded side of the resistors and uses the 10A socket as a convenient way to get the return current, as the common terminal is too far away.

The resistors do not affect use as a K probe socket either, they only are in circuit with a transistor.

Just note that there is absolutely no specification given for transistor test at all, it is just there to fill a switch position, the readings will have very little use in real life other than showing a transistor is either a unit with some gain, is not totally shorted but there is absolutely no difference between a leaky transistor with no gain and a working one with gain. It just says it passes current. Might be usable as a LED test fixture instead if the voltage open circuit is high enough.

@SteveyG, I have seen many older multimeters in ebay auctions that have damaged inner shrouds presumably from using non shrouded test leads.  See

http://mrmodemhead.com/blog/fluke-banana-jack-repair/

and this recent post

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/multi-meter-broken-(/

While I haven't seen it on a 87V, mainly the original 87 I, I thought I would let you know about the potential risk.

Franky might have some shrouded plugs that you might find useful?  No, I'm not in business with Franky or get any kickbacks from him!  :-DD

Martin did a video on his test leads.
