Got my scope the other day.
Ordered the 100MHz option with it.
Scope arrived promptly but no option.
Dealer tells me since option is in two parts... firmware licence and hardware front panel sticker it may take some time to receive the option.
I understand this is a new product  but...
Come on Keysight... pick up Your game.
Dave ( the founder of the messrs Hewlet and Packard fame ) would not approve of this approximate approach to delivering.

And with an email to the factory with the scope SN# and whatever else ID they need you should have it within days or at least within a day or so of receiving the scope. Any sticker can be had snail mail whenever but if you paid for an option you should have it pronto.
Dealer not doing their job properly or incompetence at KS head office.

I don't know what the normal practice is for selling license keys for unlocking gear, I'm one of those who have never bought any. I have an irrational reluctance to pay money to unlock options/features I already own! (Like I'm paying hundreds of dollars for a short piece of string!  )

Why can't Keysight offer the keys on their own website? Fill out a form and receive the key by email? Fully automated?

And a sticker by mail a week later?

I assume it's just part of the arrangement with their dealers and distributors: Options probably account for a share of scope revenue that is not insignificant, and dealers are entitled to get their cut of that.

It is generally tricky to mix dealer-based distribution and direct sales: If a manufacturer relies on dealers to demonstrate and sell products, support customers etc., the dealers typically don't like being taken out of the loop by direct sales which the manufacturer offers in parallel.

Yep, that makes it all more complicated. And also why I like dealing directly with manufacturers. Pros and cons I guess.

An option to consider would be affiliate links, Keysight carries out the process but each distributor gets their share based on them providing the form?

you would hope that a dealer would have at least one of each model in stock, surely being a dealers means they can return unsold units, or give the dealer scopes with no labels and they apply the coirrect label at the time of sale while an automated process releases the keycode to the buyer.

Yes one would think the dealer would be supplied with some "operating" stock.Anyway I shall see to it after the holidays.

A lot of this depends on how the distributor decided to stock the 1000 X-Series, there are options for them to stock either upgraded scopes or scopes + upgrade option. You should also double check the paperwork that came with the scope and make sure there isn't licensing info in there also.
