USB scope with XYZ access
« on: September 02, 2018, 04:26:37 pm »
Hi,

My CRT based equipment, such as scopes and SpecAn have very difficult to read displays.  But many of them have XYZ output.  So I was looking for an alignment scope or vector scope of some kind to display output on a large screen.  But search has not been very fruitful.

Does anyone know of a USB based scope with XYZ input, and can do X-Y mode?  While Z port is pretty much common on analog type scope, I have not seen many on more recent digital models, and if it does, they are almost always high-end stuff.  I want an inexpensive kind.  To give a complete picture of my desired setup, SpecAn generates XYZ signal, that gets fed to a USB based scope, and it feeds into a computer and to a large display.  Basically, I'm using USB scope as a scan converter between XYZ and VGA.

Thanks for helping out.  I'm getting tired of taking off my glasses and squinting.

Some (very few) DSOs include a Z-axis input for X-Y mode but I have never heard of a USB DSO which does.

If you're willing to program a bit, I'd imagine any USB scope with 3+ inputs and an ability to use the data in external applications could do it, though.

I thought about home brewing or programming but I'd rather not do that in this case.

Some of the digital scopes I already have, some of them mid to high-end, performs badly in XY mode.  If that's all I can get, then I have no choice but do it myself...
How inexpensive DSO performed weren't even funny as a joke.
