USA - how to purchase Brymen DMM (Greenlee brand or other)
« on: July 16, 2014, 02:56:48 am »
hi all,

would like the Brymen meter but in the USA it seems to only exist under the Greenlee brand name.  No problem with a 'brand' except suppliers for Greenlee are either asking a really high price or they are a bit sketchy.

Examples:

datacomtools.com - twice did not respond to the email I sent to sales, nor did the 'chat now' on the site respond.

westwayelectricsupply.com might be ok - but the website is a bit new and the domain registration seems to be expired which is a bit unusual.

I have not exhausted all opportunities but it does seem to me a market opportunity is being missed by Brymen and Greenlee to have a high profile seller promote this product and of course not require gigantic margins.

anyone know a good way to get hold of this meter?... other than flying to Taiwan or begging someone there to ferry one for me?

thanks all!

Home Depot might carry some Greenlee?  Ebay is always another option.  I have seen that particular meter you linked going for $150 USD NIB.  It took a lot of will power not to hit the buy button.

Some Brymen 500,000 count multimeters are also sold under the Amprobe banner (AM-160).  Or Extech MM560A.

While Franky does sell the Brymen in his store, you may want to consider warranty, repair/return, etc potential issues for a relatively high cost DMM item.  The same goes for non USA sellers.

If you buy Amprobe, Greenlee and/or Extech in the USA, the USA warranty may be worth the extra $$$.  Only you can decide if that is important or not.

awesome! two decent sources though not in the USA.  I will probably order from one of these two.

Easy. Visit forum member Franky's eBay Store

I wish to point out that the other models branded Amprobe and Extech may have some similarities but are not equal to the Brymen BM869.  The most significant feature for my purposes is the dual display.  It is really useful to have those meters listed on the thread because others may have different needs and find reasons to purchase those similar items.

The Greenlee brand management company could use more distributors : (

Yes that Yokogawa is a good deal if you don't mind used and no warranty. It is probably no real worry but who knows?

Just by coincidence, regarding the issue of warranty and returning it (vendor is TME) ...

A bit of an unusual end but I did end up buying that Yokogawa meter.  My application was to do some long-term datalogging and I kept thinking about that 9V battery of the Brymen and how I only use those in my smoke detectors now.

The Yokogawa from ebay was in totally new condition and I have checked most of the functions, comparing it to my Agilent U1272A.   The functionality seems really similar although I prefer the user interface of the Agilent - being biased somewhat as I am used to it.  The display on the Agilent meter is really nice and readable from any angle even to the extreme.

The display on the Yokogawa is horrible. I has been mentioned elsewhere.  Good thing I intend to use it mostly for logging and review of the data by PC.  I would never pick it up versus the other meters I have.

I would think generally the Brymen is a better buy and as already noted can easily be purchased from Franky's store or tme.eu.
