Unlocking Siglent SDS1104X-E, step by step

Hello all

I see there’s an R9 version now available and OS 8.3. Am I safe to assume that it’s ok to upgrade my hacked 1104 without losing the extra features?

OS 8.3 is not yet publicly available although it came already installed in my recently acquired SDS1104X-E along with V6.1.37R8. On the other hand, R9 is available for download. I have installed R9 and my previous hacks (all  ) are OK.

Unfortunately there are still some bugs lying 'round!

Looks like this is necessary for latest HW revisions

1. Fixed the problem: The skew of the two ADCs is not accuracy for hardware of 09 version (System Status shows Hardware Version: 09-xx). The other hardware version has no this problem.

Just updated to Firmware V6.1.37R9.  I had activated the options back in February (reply #332 above) and was also concerned about the impact of doing the update.  The only effect I found was the WiFi and NTP had been turned off and I had to manually enter the WLAN data again to re-establish the connection.

Got my SDS1104X-E today and had it fully hacked in 12 minutes!

Thank all of you that participated in doing the research on this and sharing the information to make this possible.

It was interesting to read through this thread and see the evolution of the process.  Started out fairly complex and ended up a breeze.

You don't have to look far. There is a detailed post on the previous page with all the steps you need to generate keys and use them.

It looks like LCISL cammand through web interface adds temporary license for WIFI/MSO/AWG, while entering the same code through scope menu makes it permanent. FW 6.1.37R9, Uboot 8.3

I have come here to admit defeat and see if I can not track down some assistance from the smart folks on this board.

Issue : No matter what I seem to do, I can not get the WIFI, AWG, or MSO to activate past a 30 time trial. I have successfully patched the unit with the 200M feature and it reflects as a 1204x-e.

Things I have tried : Various combinations of firmware and OS. Unit shipped with OS 8.1 SW 6.1.37R9.  I have downgraded firmware to match posts reporting success.  I have upgraded fully. 
Python scripts dating back to 2018, including as far as I can tell, the most recent back on page 14 of this thread. Based on the hash in the script, the most recent one is consistent in what it generates. 
Confirmed hardware version matches people reporting success 01-05.

Results : Putting these codes into the unit itself results in a "The data is invalid!" message.

How can I confirm that the hashkey in the script is correct for my unit? Anyone else having issues with hardware purchased in the last month?

I am probably 2-3 hours into messing with what someone else recently proposed took them "12 minutes."

Sorry on a double post, additional details :

Attached is a jpeg image that includes both a run from the python script as well as a hex dump using one of the origional mem dump methods from earlier in this thread.  Scouring the dump file i finally came across 3 16 digit keys which I assume to be the AWG, WIFI, and MSO keys. 
The key from the memdump, matches the key from the python utility exactly.

Am I just stupid? I am putting this key in with all caps directly into the unit, tried all lowercase...

Hey, appreciate the response. 

I got it, heres what I did. 

I removed the 200MHz version and confirmed the Product type now read SDS 1104X-E.

The codes worked immediately in uppercase.  I have not seen anywhere else on this site mention of doing the optional codes before the 200MHz upgrade, and most directions actually have it happening first.  I do not know why this is the case for me but now its documented for the next guy, if you are really stuck, pull the 200MHz and try the optionals first.

After all 3 optionals were XX, I reapplied the 200MHz code and everything looks good to go after a restart.

Serious shoutout to a cool forum with a wealth of knowledge.

2 questions for all of those who have / have hacked this:

1) Some old posts / videos show the -3db drop at around 130 MHz when using original firmware at locked 100MHz bandwidth.  Once you unlock it to 200, does it still have the -3db drop there or does it get extended? what is the drop @ 200? I couldn't find a definitive post on a hacked one.

2) The XY mode is important for my usecase, and the early firmware was abysmal at about 2 FPS updates. I've seen a 1202XE take a newer firmware where it looked like it was at about 15-20 FPS now.  But I know the 1104XE firmware is a different branch and is updated more frequently. Does the 1104XE with latest firmware have a better speed in XY mode?

There are some posts where the rise time of a fast pulse was used to measure the bandwidth and an an improvement of around 2x was measured. Here's a quote from one:

The rise time measured with my Colby PG1000A pulse generator (250ps rise/fall time) into a 50 Ohm termination decreased from 2.9ns to 1.6ns.  Not quite a factor of two, but close.

Thanks for the postings! Worked pretty well for me so far!

Question though- my scope accepted the codes that I entered for other bandwidths, like 300MHZ, then replied to PRBD? appropriately, even afterwards showing the corresponding Siglent model number after a power cycle, e.g. SDS1304X-E is now shown when I go to the SCPI page or from the System Status button on the scope.

Note that this didn't exactly work when I tried 350MHz and above. "Product Type" was blank.

So does this really mean that the scope upgrade can be done to 250MHz and 350MHz levels too?
