Directly from his new video, no reference to people needing to be a company...
'Company Name' is one of the required answers on the registration form. Just sayin'.

Yep, it's required (asterisk)-

I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

So basically they pay a YouTuber who his core audience is hobbyist and tinkering guys to advertise their stuff and then no were in the terms is mentioned you need to be a company except in the registration form...

OK I rest my case, Keysight is a lost cause then.

Marketing is a bit more complicated than that.
Fact is that many new young ones are watching these channels, even those that are working as engineers. You say hobby, but it is more like people who gravitate towards that kind of entertrainment. Including proffesionals

If you go to Youtube, there are channels where the likes of Raytheon publish videos about their missile systems... I don't really think there is a hobby market for those.... But those videos are there.

It is brand indoctrination, repeating so much it is recognizable.... And lately anywhere I go, all the brands do this indiscriminate marketing through all channels no matter how inappropriate they are.. Because it is cheap so why not do it...

It is stupid, I know but it is what it is.

And? Nobody said that all of YouTube is for hobbyists only. What was said is that GreatScott’s target audience is hobbyists. That’s a very different thing.

And? Just fill in your employer's name or school / university you are attending
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Fact is that many new young ones are watching these channels, even those that are working as engineers. You say hobby, but it is more like people who gravitate towards that kind of entertainment. Including professionals

I've published almost 150 videos on the Rohde and Schwarz YouTube channel

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKxVoO5jUTlvsVtDcqrVn0ybqBVlLj2z8

Although the "market" for these videos is mostly professional engineers and technicians who work with test and measurement instruments, many of them are, hopefully, useful to electronics hobbyists (like myself).

Personally, I use YouTube to find information both for my "day job" (as an engineer) as well as for my hobbies.  Although some channels are clearly more "hobbyist" or more "professional," I often find useful information on the same topic from both types of channels.  I think most people would consider EEVblog a "hobbyist" channel, but I've used it for both work and for "fun" :)

If you go to Youtube, there are channels where the likes of Raytheon publish videos about their missile systems... I don't really think there is a hobby market for those.... But those videos are there.

(laughs)  I've done a few videos, such as "Understanding Range Gate Pull-Off and Velocity Gate Pull-Off", that are more or less targeted (no pun intended) at folks who work with missiles.

Exactly, I was referring the YouTuber in question, not the full YouTube array of electronics focus channels.

I consider GreatScott's target audience as Hobbyist and Tinkering focus users, same way I consider EEVBlog and The Signal Path for Engineers/Electronics Students and advanced level hobbyists/old professionals in the Electronics area.

Marco Reps for example for me is both a mix between Advance Hobbyist and Thinkers sparked with some more advanced videos for Engineers and old professionals.

His approach in the design of the most perfect and stable ppm wise (in the realm of known physics) voltage source together with the CNC/Solar experiments/3D printing combined with product reviews and teardowns/repair of equipment is refreshing in terms of content that most can enjoy regarding their knowledge level.

Sure, you absolutely can do that, and likely will get away with it, so its worth the risk, so good advice.
But its also entirely possible if you win they'll ask for your info, figure out you are not who they are targeting, and disqualify you.

Metcal pulled that, had a typical contest sign up form, name, country, etc. nothing unusual. Get to the point that you win the contest, "oh USA shipping address only, disqualified".

That’s a completely different situation, and likely expressly stated in the fine print.

I can see the similarity, since Keysight would also have the T&C in the fine print. However, verifying for the country is something so simple that it bears incompetence on the Metcal side (or whmoever they hired to run the contest).  :-DD

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Or, perhaps they found harvesting the information on non-USian engineers useful.  That sort of specific-interest contact information is and has always been worth money.

Indeed. I missed that aspect. You win the internet evil cookie today. :-+
