Original ENIAC mouse test (ca. 1945):

"Randall: What's the zaniest thing you did while developing ENIAC?

Eckert: The mouse cage was pretty funny. We knew mice would eat the insulation off the wires, so we get samples of all the wires that were available and put them in a cage with a bunch of mice to see which insulation they did not like. We only used wire that passed the mouse test."

I wouldn't be surprised, just like people who put the blame on the dog when they fart.

In this adorable dog's imagination, ticks look like the mouth of a strange creature. :)

Homeless the dog from Cutting Edge Engineering Australia (Youtube) is a Doomguy for incoming mail – and toys.  Rip and tear, rip and tear.

Puppies sometimes chew on our favourite shoes, exactly because they like the smell.  Some dogs have a protective instinct that a foreign smell might trigger when they're alone, leading to e.g. mail being chewed, especially when young, impulsive, bored, and not a thought stirring in their little noggin.

Sometimes, they can do a stupid things, especially while young. But to my observation, none of them chew a live mains cord, no matter of the insulation thickness. Never. Not dogs, not cats, not even kittens

My girlfriend's cat chewed through a string of Christmas lights and blew a little hole in it's cheek from the arc.

My female cat chewed my wired apple earbuds cord when she was a kitten. It was difficult to repair.

My cat did.

It caused quite a flash in her mouth, tripped all the breakers.

I don't know what's in Apple wires but cats seem to prefer them.

Just incredible. I suspect they can somehow measure the electric field strength by the vibrissa to don't play with dangerous voltage. The capabilities may vary though.

True story: I just (today) bought a gadget off Amazon and after I opened it I caught the cat trying to chew the wire.

I put it back in the bad out of reach and half an hour later I caught her trying to get into the bag.

When I went to use it? It didn't work.

This is now the wire on my brand new gadget:

So, yeah, this is something manufacturers need to test for.

nb. She does the same with Apple wires... the wire she bit and tripped the breakers with was an Apple wire.

Apple wires...

...also the rubber caps they put on Rigol oscilloscope BNCs. The cat goes directly for those whenever I get the 'scope out.

It's definitely a thing. There's hundreds of wires here and she only goes for certain ones.

A previous cat was deterred just before she chewed the lead of a Tek Hall effect current probe. Present Technocat favours USB leads, which are a lot less expensive.

My uncle’s dog did. He chewed into their TV’s power cord. My uncle found out when he heard the yelp.
