Test Leads for Agilent 34401A
« on: April 18, 2020, 09:45:44 am »
Hi All.
I have a multimeter Agilent 34401A of second hand, with a normal test leads, from a cheaper multimeter.
I see that cheap test leads add a little error in the millivolt range so, I want to buy a good ones.

any buying advice?

Joining both probes I read 1.6mV

It seems that your multimeter is in spec... It is a matter of accuracy rather than your probes.

34401A Accuracy Specification +/-(% of reading + % of range)
100.0000mV DC: 0.0050+0.0035 (1Year 23+/-5 deg.C)

Therefore, 0V input -> +/-(0mV*0.0050% + 100mV*0.0035%) -> +/-0.0035mV

34401A zero also depends on NPLC: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/dmm-adc-noise-comparison-testing-project/msg2977864/#msg2977864 (and probably on the range too).

Official leads are 34138A.
I believe these were marked obsolete for some time (?), and Keysight suggested another one without grabbers (were they out of grabbers?  :-//), but they seem to be back https://www.keysight.com/en/pd-826347-pn-34138A.
