Datron 1071 - A very strange problem

.......

The diode and resistor that pin 6 of the op-amp is connected to are just behind that red film capacitor next to the op-amp. You won't
believe what I saw when I looked behind that capacitor...

 :-DD

I had the same thing with a Tek 2235 scope, one of the wires from the PCB to the 'VAR HOLDOFF' knob was looped on the lug on the potentiometer but not soldered. I guess that function was never used by the previous owner so it was never discovered...  :-BROKE
Where does all this test equipment keep coming from?!?

mnem
we are fucking doomed.
That's about it, it's like, at least in the UK, it is not illegal for someone to park their car on your driveway, but it is illegal for you to remove it or damage it in any way  :wtf:

We should be weary of law enforcement systems that implement violence spirals. It is a potentially oscillating feedback loop.

desperately trying to at least sound on-topic

Thanks / Tack for a very nice write-up!  And welcome back!

If you like me are hunting on Tradera, we should probably arrange for not stepping on each others toes. There are a few buyers who show up a lot in bid lists so there is a community of prospects in Sweden too..

Not TE and may or may not qualify for jammie git territory but I think I got a hella deal.  I was at the Habitat for Humanity thrift store yesterday looking for anything of interest.  Found a Fellowes 79ci crosscut shredder for $10 USD.  I looked it up and it still current and sells for $289 USD on Amazon.  Additionally, Habitat gives 24 hour warranty on anything that plugs in so you can get a chance to see if it really works.  Works perfectly and much quieter than my older and smaller Fellowes shredder.  It can actually shred the quoted 16 pages also.  I gave Mrs GreyWoolfe my old one as I do much more shredding than she does.

Thank the procedural rules that you can get away with so large shreds as that one makes. Shredding CONFIDENTIAL / SECRET / TOP SECRET in Sweden requires the machine to produce shreds no larger than 1,5mm by 15mm, or 2 by 2 mm if square.  Such shredders are very finicky devices that require a lot of care and maintenance.

( And then you burn the shreds and water the ashes. )

Thanks!

You're quite safe regarding anything currently listed on Tradera. An HP 419A with bidding starting at 1100 SEK is overpriced IMHO and there's nothing I can see in the rest of what's on offer that interests me.

No you tow it out onto the road with your Land Rover and phone the police and tell them it has been abandoned.

Have some experience with that  :-DD

I'm sure that in almost all cases, you'd get away with it and nothing more would be heard. The police would have no interest in the matter, unless it was damaged or caused an accident or something, but I believe it is illegal to do that off your own bat.

Probably is.

I try and break the law at least once a day.

I'd suggest that nearly everyone can manage to do that without even consciously trying.
Very convenient for TPTB.

Exactly the point.

No TE today for me. Too bloody hot. Peaking at 37 today and 40 tomorrow. If we hit 40 that’s a new temperature record for the UK which currently stands at 38.7.

Ah summer is needed to identify the mental people so you can distrust them  >:D

“Want to go for a run today?” … add them to the list.

“Oh I prefer Morocco heat” … add them to the list.

22C is about the coldest day in winter here by me. Being close to the ocean 40C is hard to reach, but 110% RH is not. I did live a few years in a town where summer and winter it reached the same temperature every day, 42.5C. Just winter it would be cold at 18C, summer minimum 24C. Very popular place these days, plenty of new building there, close to nature reserves, though I was living in one as well, along with working in one. Gardeners were selecting plants on the basis of "what will an Impala not eat", which was pretty hard to find, as they will quite happily eat prickly pear cactus, and you were pretty much left with sisal and aloes as the only things to plant, and even then they would eat the flowers and new leaves.

People who deliberately lie about in the sun have always struck me as unhinged. Some pay a lot of money to go to foreign parts to do it. There are tanning salons where strange people fork out to be exposed to UV.

If we didn't have a bit of this sort of weather, we wouldn't really have had a summer, and we've had a few of those years. I find it's depressing after a week. Too hot for TE as you say.

Talk about topical ....

Just had a segment on the nightly news about the current heatwave through Europe and Britain.

Hitting the 40's is bad enough when you're used to it - but it's going to be dire for those who aren't.

The hobbits had the right idea ... underground.

Translation:

And now the weather forecast:

From 14:00 hrs onwards, you can expect the occasional hobbit to appear and want to dispose of a ring.
