Since I was on 3rd shift and a contractor I was not aware of field fail data but it is my understanding that a node fail in a Z is an extremely rare event. But there was one instance where a customer engineer fucked up a node install in a pre-announce machine in a Walmart data center that caused an enormous stink. The smell was so bad that all of us techs were given additional training on the proper node removal/install.  :o

I decided to get in on the action, posting pics of pliers/cutters. Instead of gathering all of them together though, impractical in terms of space, I have done a "contrast and compare", my largest pair next to my smallest, with AA leak tube for scale.

I HATE DIODES !!!!!

Currently trying to identify/sort/organize all my salvaged beefy diodes. Most were pulled from CRT TV's or monitors.... their datasheet says they are "damping" diodes, for CRT Horizontal deflection.

The datasheet will tell you all sorts of things relevant to their intended use case, logical, fair enough, with all sorts of repetitive or non repetitive voltage or current stimuli, BUT they will never tell you the most basics of specs I wanna know for a freaking diode : what is the maximum  DC voltage and current they can sustain !!!   :scared:

I don't care if their diode can do 1,500Volts repetitive at 32.5kHz or 115,567kHz on a square wave with 35.78% duty cycle...... just tell me what freaking DC voltage and current it can handle FFS !!!

So basically I have lots of cool beefy diodes but I can't contemplate reusing them because I have no idea what current and voltage they can actually handle, hence I might as well throw them away !!   >:(
I

What package types?

Maybe the name is an omen.

Don't know what "omen" means sorry  :-\

Package is irrelevant, the problem is the datasheet... but here it is anyway. I don't know how it's called, datasheet doesn't say. It's like a TO220 (on the pic as well, for size comparison), but much bigger.

FMQ-G2FS is 1500V/10A and FMQ-G5FMS is the same.
Whole set is over 1000V so that's pretty safe.
Number 5 seems to be among beefier ones so maybe 5A is safe.

Yes I know that of course, I already have that datasheet, hence my original post bitching about it.

Pretty nasty part you've selected.
I'd say that
FM maker
Q IR 0,5 mA
-
G
5 TO-3PF-2Pin
F 1500V
S

Not much sense.
Lower voltage of D2 file is clearly a fast recovery time point.
So Robert's rules are also clearly all there will be.

BTW,
Back in the day off duty firemen did larger safe migrations.
At the end they all showed their income-tax cards and cost was equal net amount to all.

And so, one more for the slide rule.
Proto is made but can't find it.

Making one sided without a rivet.
- Glue the print to something thick enough.
- Cut all circles.
- Glue outermost ring to something stiff enough.
- Insert other rings, without the glue.
- Done.

More fun to take it to the range and disintegrate it with .223.

Only if the seller is still holding it, then I want to see how good my aim is with a 16mm LMG, after not firing one for a few years. Think finding the Alouette mounting will be the hard part, you tend to need lots of Araldite rapid after use, to put the floor back together. Record was 47kg of Araldite, to fill the holes, and put the seat and other mounts back into the floor.

Now I have one question: is it safe to put it below the stack of HP multimeters?
If so that would save a lot of space and would help me appreciate it a little bit more, as it is, I can hardly work in the "work"bench  :-DD
No it's not safe to stack equipment.  :scared: I'd never stack more than 10 items. I can't reach any higher  :-DD :-DD :-DD
And Murphy guarantees that, no matter what order you stack them in, it will be the one at the bottom that will need to be repaired.   :-DD

-Pat
You just gave me an interesting idea for mechanical or mechatronics design. The StackJack(TM). Sold in sets of four. The solution of a problem or a recipe for desaster?
 :scared:

Already available from your local building supplier. 4 strongboys and support jacks
https://safefence.co.uk/strongboy-lintel-support.html
Used to support brickwork when installing a window or door in an existing wall.

*looks at your stack, then back at the relatively flimsy little strongboy*

You'll want to double up on those. :-DD

Well, that was a surprisingly good hamfest up in the hills amongst the Cd and Pb mines. I sold some unwanted crap[1] found a new home for some surplus treasures, and didn't buy much.

The IC clips were £5, and the collection of GR-874 adaptors was £10. Both will go straight into the stock cupboard in the fond hope I'll never need to buy either again.

Does anyone know the type of connector shown in the last picture; there's no useful info on the adaptor other than "QRP"

[1] not really; it all worked as designed :)

I think it is a "C" connector---very much like an "N", but a "bayonet" type.
They used to be relatively common, not so much, anymore.

And his conclusion at the end? "I still, on the whole, really like it." And he's thinking of dumping one of his household's fossil fuel cars and getting an additional electric car. So "nail in the coffin" is a serious misrepresentation of what this video actually says.

I might, for a laugh, and for old time's sake, dig one of my SPARC machines out of the pile and see if it still boots.

isn't it about old times ? Preserving the stuff that we grew up with ?

Anyway.

As for EVs: 20 hours of driving while pulling a trailer loaded with about 700 kg going over Eifel, Hunsrück, Taunus, Bergisches Land (translation: up and down the hills, can't call them mountains, but still steep climbs), doing 1600 km (1000 miles) without too many breaks (only for sleeping ...)
I don't think that an EV could have done this. Not without forced stops due to outta juice and a very painful charging experience.

Beat me to it, it is indeed a C type. 50R version (75R exist but are rare. Specfic feature of C type is high voltage / peak power handling. Both male and femaile pins are fully insulated when mated unlike N type which has a bout a 3mm air gap. Most common useage of C types are aircaft "L Band" pulse radar systems (IFF / Transponder, DME/TACAN) and nuclear instrumentation like scintillation and proportional probes
