25 years ago, as I was entering the dungeons of professional Unix consultancy, I was given one piece of advice, which I follow, when appropriate, to this day; "Learn what is on the machine as default, because that is all you'll be allowed to use." Hence, I learnt "vi" and "ed". It makes you faster.
Oh, and "nano" is the first piece of crap I
remove from a box that's unfortunate enough to have it. It's a shit editor, a clone of an even shittier one, "pico", that more than once burnt me with its insane default of breaking lines without being asked to.
