Just spent the last 90 minutes or so sweating and swearing at the Inshitnia, as I tried to get the serpentine belt back on. My own fault really, need to remember to take it out of gear before lifting the clutch when I park without turning the engine off.
I've just spent my time
not swearing at the BMW. I've spent the afternoon converting the temporary dashcam wiring to permanent (even has its own fuses) wiring. That involved disconnecting (and reconnecting)
three batteries (high voltage, 12V main, 12V stop/start) and taking out all the interior trim down one side of the vehicle, and part of the rear seat, to route the dashcam cables to the rear camera and power along the existing wiring loom routes and, most importantly, not over any of the gazillion airbags. Then putting it all back again.
Provided that you've got the BMW workshop documentation that shows you where all the trim clips are hidden it's not an unpleasant job. A bit fiddly just becuase there are so many bits of the vehicle that you touch. Nicer to work on, for this kind of job anyway, than anything I've had before.
I now have a dashcam that turns on with the ignition, puts itself into parking mode when the ignition goes off, stays powered 24/7 and reports any nefarious activities while it's parked via an LTE modem. Also I now have none of the cables shoved into bits of trim and seals where they don't belong. All in all a useful afternoon's work, even if I now ache a bit from all the twisting and turning necessary to get into all the corners. [Fx: reaches for the bottle of Ibuprofen]
