One of our machine rooms was built by a contractor who decided to fit M5 threaded cage nuts in everything. It's the only room so fitted.

Now that is true deviant behaviour!   :scared:

<snip>

No, there is every sign that this was intentional from the contractor and no-one in our organisation understood the contractors perverse manners until it was too late. Because why deviate from M6? Nobody does that!

The only up side with M5 is that DIN / ISO specifies Philips 2 for M5, and since people (except yours truly) who fit things in racks never have a Philips 3 driver as required by M6, but instead bodge everything (including PH1 and Pozidriv) with a PH2 driver, this is an adaptation to reality in some sense.

Now that is true deviant behaviour!   :scared:
Engineer: "Order me some new cage nuts and screws please"

 ...

PO: "Wait a moment, I have my notes here somewhere" -struggles to read notes- "Ermm, 500, umm, M...5? And 20mm screws for them"

On site, when the driver arrives from the supplier:
Driver: "Here you go mate"
Engineer: "Cheers"

Driver leaves, engineer checks order more closely and curses, then shrugs and uses what he has to hand.

You left out the bit where the delivered screws are countersunk.  >:D
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

No it's like JIS   :-DD :-DD

The removable flatish bit in my Leatherman Charge fits just about every cross recess screw from size 1 to 3.

Am I the only one that realised Terra was playing the role of the PO here? I would have thought the quotation marks gave it away!

Just spent the last 90 minutes or so sweating and swearing at the Inshitnia, as I tried to get the serpentine belt back on. My own fault really, need to remember to take it out of gear before lifting the clutch when I park without turning the engine off.

I've got both No. 1 and No. 2  PZ and PH in my Charge Ti...

Edit: I bought a 1,2,3 set of Vessel JIS drivers. A wonderful bite they have, indeed. In some sense it feels they're better suited to Philips than my iBost, Wiha or Bahco Philips drivers.

Just spent the last 90 minutes or so sweating and swearing at the Inshitnia, as I tried to get the serpentine belt back on. My own fault really, need to remember to take it out of gear before lifting the clutch when I park without turning the engine off.

I've just spent my time not swearing at the BMW. I've spent the afternoon converting the temporary dashcam wiring to permanent (even has its own fuses) wiring. That involved disconnecting (and reconnecting) three batteries (high voltage, 12V main, 12V stop/start) and taking out all the interior trim down one side of the vehicle, and part of the rear seat, to route the dashcam cables to the rear camera and power along the existing wiring loom routes and, most importantly, not over any of the gazillion airbags. Then putting it all back again.

Provided that you've got the BMW workshop documentation that shows you where all the trim clips are hidden it's not an unpleasant job. A bit fiddly just becuase there are so many bits of the vehicle that you touch. Nicer to work on, for this kind of job anyway, than anything I've had before.

I now have a dashcam that turns on with the ignition, puts itself into parking mode when the ignition goes off, stays powered 24/7 and reports any nefarious activities while it's parked via an LTE modem. Also I now have none of the cables shoved into bits of trim and seals where they don't belong. All in all a useful afternoon's work, even if I now ache a bit from all the twisting and turning necessary to get into all the corners. [Fx: reaches for the bottle of Ibuprofen]
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

I think CNG is not a suitable fuel for motor vehicles, in the event of crash or a fire, it has the power to either demolish a whole block a become flamethrower if fitted with PRV.

We are!  I showed one of my American friends the Sears Kenmore dryer that came with my house and he coudn't get over the Robertsons on it.  It would've been made here by Camco or Inglis, probably Inglis.

Then there's the story of the Canadian Westinghouse Ltd. motor generator set that nobody was expecting to see down in Baltimore...

Yeah, the only crazier thing would be to replace CNG (~39GJ/tonne) with something even more energetic like Diesel (~45 GJ/tonne) or Petroleum (~47 GJ/tonne).
