Do these connectors fit for an old HP3400A?

If you mean for the AC Mains input, the answer is no.  The old HP gear's oval connector is known as a PH-163, and unfortunately they’re rather rare these days.

http://madrona.ca/e/powerConn/index.html]http://madrona.ca/e/powerConn/index.html] http://madrona.ca/e/powerConn/index.html

In some cases there’s enough room to install a C-14 connector without too much fuss, so this can be an option.  Otherwise you’ll need to find one of the PH-163 cords.

If the [hp] is made in what was then West Germany, yes, they probably fit. I've got a Model 400h VTVM made in the early Bundesrepublik that takes that connector.
Thank you both for the information.
I'll wait, till the buddy has arrived. Deal is in progress.  :-)

As a fallback I've found this one:

Then you need a PH-163 as Cubdriver wrote; the Heizgerätestecker won't do.

It's Heißgerätestecker (or Heissgerätestecker for our Helvetian friends). The Heizgerätestecker would be the opposite of a Kühlgerätestecker which doesn't exist because it's a Kaltgerätestecker. :-)

Gone are the days when the only thing that you needed to do something with your oscilloscope were some probes.
I'm looking for a keyboard for the incoming TDS5104 now. It should be as compact as possible and best would be one with an integrated trackball. I found a Siemens Nixdorf one with a touchpad, which has the desired PS2 interfaces (2, as one for the keyboard and one for the pointing function). But knowing that S-N gear was in many cases not really compatible with anything else, I am a bit wary. Looking on. If someone does know a unit fulfilling the requirements outlined above, please let me know..

I have one of these http://www.riitek.com/product/k12x.html

Bluetooth, touchpad, usable keyboard with some tactile feedback.
Nice, except for the Bluetooth, which has (imo) no place at the lab bench.

What about in a lab researching bluetooth technology..?

U1273A has arrived, and it is not a brightness setting issue, it's a dying display. Looks like the previous owner has had a go, there's some dirt inside the screen which I'll clean out when I put a new display in.

It's a very light DMM, definitely not any good as a hammer, the Fluke 27 is safe...

the postman just rang. twice ...

Got a Keithley 2000 in the mail. Sender information plus serial number intakt. boots wo errors. Selftest gets to 400, then asks me to insert 4 wire short which I don't have. Last calibration was in 2010. Cosmetically it looks a shitload better than the 2700. Display ok, no covers missing.

cost was 155 Pesos incl postage

Look, what just showed up in the ebay Kleinanzeigen:

Presumably Yahoo Japan can't or won't meet EU / UK data protection standards......

Or the EU/UK can't meet Japan's data protection standards. Given the lack of effective data protection here, compared to what's officially "on the books", that is not an inconceivable state of affairs.

A quick search reveals:

Please note that the Amended Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Act No. 57 of 2003 as amended in 2020) ('2020 Amendments') was passed the National Diet of Japan on 5 June 2020 and was promulgated on 12 June 2020. The 2020 Amendments will come into force on 1 April 2022.

Take the "1st April" and add "Whoops, we forgot to make some changes" and you quite reasonably get 6th April.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

I'd be very leery of using that made in PLA especially for 220V mains; it is hygroscopic.

I'd def want to print that in some other plastic. I'd also probably remix it a bit to make clearance for heat-shrink tubing around the crimps. With that mod, I probably wouldn't be afraid to use it for 120V mains printed in PLA... maybe.  :o  Let me cogitate on it a bit and I'll get back to you...

Hmmmmmm...

I don't have a Megger anymore, but I do think I'd be interested in seeing such testing of PLA parts exposed to long periods of really damp weather. Maybe a few rounds of HiPot testing to see if they'll light up; that could actually make for some good cinema!  :-DD

IMHO the biggest risk is not the hygroscopic thing, but that at  about 150°C PLA starts to degrade its insulators properties. So... for mains in case there is some overheating in the plug (not fully seated, intermittent contact... ) you are basically releasing the holy smoke a few minutes after....

Just ordered some TE  :)
A FSH-Z2 directional coupler / splitter for the FSH-3 SA / VNA.
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325153717583
This will allow single port cable and antenna measurements with the FSH-3. Yes, I could, and have in the past, used an simple external coupler but this does not have the power divider and bypass relay.
Quite expensive for my typical TEA budget but gives a one box solution for several tasks.
Anyone want an Anritsu Sitemaster?

Started the restoration and re-cap of the Type 547.

Front panel needed some additional cleaning. Noisy pots/switches deoxit'ed. Started to re-cap as shown. I'll be moving the scope to bench 2 to complete the re-cap.

Now that the scope has been powered up for several hours it's stinking like a sawmill from the residue of all that sawdust that was packed inside. It's not smelling gross like hot mildew but not exactly pleasant. I hope it dissipates eventually. The sawdust must have been hardwoods. If it were pine I would assume it would smell like a Christmas tree a be a lot more pleasant.  ;D

... Now I have too many DMMs ...

I don't want to be rude,  :-[   ...

...    but that might be an axiomatic wrong assertion within the TEA scope.   :-DD

Hi Peter,

your letter arrived, many thanks. The connector fits in principal, thank you very much.

I went from 0 bench DMMs to quite a bundle of very useful ones. I think I'll lay back for a while.

Mja. I did my statement above knowing about an incoming new DMM already.   :-DD

Today a HP3457A arrived in good condition. Self tested OK.
Doing a fast and cold first check: In case I trust the old guys, somebody might have tried to calibrate the 3457A because it is that easy to do (and to fail).
Anyhow. I'm happy to be one step nearer a sufficient DMM selection.   :)

RANDOM MODE: Ultrasonic Pest Repellers

So... they're painting the house this week, and part of that was doing a big outdoor "Spring Cleanup" around the house. Well, evidently all this activity disturbed some meeses' nest, and they decided to move inside where it was safe.   :palm:  Haven't actually seen any, but a bowl with a wee bit of stir-fry gorp residue left on my desk last night had some droppings in it this morning. yucky-putz.

So today after wiping all the counters down and inspecting cupboards for points of entry (I found none, nor any meese leavings), I decided to research ultrasonic pest repellers to see if there were any confirmed to work any more reliably than the last time I looked a couple decades ago, in hopes of persuading it/them to keep on moving elsewhere before making our home their permanently.  :P

Enter Google and their "very helpful" nature; oodles of reviews from Amazon in the results, ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime. Two of amusing note I've shared above; in the interest of not cluttering the thread with huge walls of OT text, I've attached the entirety of the 2nd review in .pdf (since eevBlog evidently isn't smart enuf to deal with .rtf) format, as I found it highly entertaining cinema and a much needed diversion after spending an hour being bludgeoned with everybody and his stepsister telling me how their pest repeller was the only one that really works...  :-DD

Cheers,

mnem

Let's hope it's not tropical hardwoods, as the oils from some can actually be toxic, so probably not good to inhale heated fumes.  :o
