Hence the meme before ;)

I could maybe match 500€ but as that was already out of budget that doesn't leave much as an option  :'(

I don't see anything like this in your ebay shop at the moment? In any case I expect HMRC would make the importation of even a reasonably priced piece of TE prohibitively expensive, unless you mis-labelled it as "marketing merchandise" or somesuch nonsense.

Post-Brexit import duty is zero for nearly everything.   Imports need paperwork and 20% VAT due.     eBay collects VAT now but only for items under £135.   Over £135  most of the time the VAT is rolled into the shipping / customs clearance fees that the buyer pays.

=== AE collects VAT even on items over £135, which simplifies buying new from China.

But it is overkill, to just test if your counter goes up in frequency. Not so much overkill anymore if you can think of other uses...

You only pay VAT, there's no additional duty on TE* so it's not as onerous as it might be. Quite a lot of carriers now do Incoterms DDP at reasonable rates so its possible to even avoid the hassles at the UK end of waiting to pay the taxes/fees - that added at least another week when I imported the 54312A from the States. Also with a decent carrier the additional fees for DDP terms (apart from the actual taxes and duties) are likely to be a little less than the arbitrary processing charges that various carriers lump on to the recipient for handling customs clearance.

But the hinge fits, and the bottom cover does too. I can live with that accidental smear of CA on the exposed part of the hinge.

I'm looking at a Philips PM2521.  Of course the probe is missing. How much of a hassle is it to bodge a probe together?

There is no probe supplied as standard with the PM2521. What one do you want?

I looked very quickly, and assumed in some kind of VTVM emulation mode that AC measurements, more so HF ones, were to be made with an AC probe. So, that's what I'm after -- at least to know how hard it is to make one from generic components.

Regarding the stain: If you have a jet torch lighter, CA glue evaporates easily from metal without a trace, just kiss is with the flame once or twice. The "haze" from it on nearby surfaces can be prevented with a constant airstream (e.g. from a pc fan)

Today arrival: a new display for my Fluke 8845A

In this thread it is said, that the Noritake Itron VFD Module, 256x64 Dot Graphic display can be used in the 8845 / 8846.

TME had six modules GU256x64D-7000 ready for delivery, so I ordered one.

I'm planning over the holidays to replace the VFD of my second 34401A and replacing the VFD of the 8845A.

Will report here.

Backside of the module:

Frontside of the module:

Wow graphical VFD looks so cool, am tempted to use one in an old project of mine which I meant to upgrade to a 264x128 LCD.. might give a VFD a try  to compare it side by side !

However when you say " I bought ONE ".. what you really mean, fr sure, is "I bought THE one ".... looked at your TME link, there is no price given, and it says " We don't sell this product any more, sorry bob !!!! "    :blah:

No, I meant what I've written. When I've bought mine, there were six display modules available.
After my purchase there were five display modules available. When I wrote my posting I checked again: five display modules.
My assumption is, that in the meantime somebody else bought them, so no more modules left.  :-//

But perhaps you can buy them directly at Noritake Itron.

Thanks, checked their site... sadly they do not make the size I want. Want 256x128. They do some 256 wide but none that are 128 high.
Well I could still use smaller displays in some other project in the future I guess, so will keep them in mind none the less...
