Yes, but do we count as 'people'? An aardvark, a dragon, a frog, a selection of 'kraut...  :)
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Pretty sure this one is an east german "alternative" to the one Martin has.
"VEB Meßtechnik Mellenbach" is the manufacturer (here under a slightly older name - I'd say your's is pretty rare?).
It looks like the "Präzisions Kurbelwiderstand Typ 1" is its close, more modern cousin?
http://www.friedrich-messtechnik.de/images/pdf/kurbelwiderstand.pdf
Edit: It was called "W.A. Möhrer, Fabrik elektrischer Messgeräte" until 1956

No, it doesn't explain why I am like I am, but it possibly explains why I still have a SWMBO.

yes, when in the manufacturers name is anywhere "VEB" = Volkseigener Betrieb, or PGH = Produktionsgenossenschaft des Handwerks, it is made in the east germany  :)

On the subject of your PM, check out what Defpom and I (actually he's done all the work) have been up to in the SDM thread.
Not officially OEM approved however the release of further info has been sanctioned at the highest levels.

Haven't watched the latest version of Scott's vid and what's been added/pulled from a private version shared with Siglent some months back however Scott's very recent webpage is what will make User Cal tweaks so much easier:
http://www.thedefpom.com/siglent_sdm_calibration.php

The Factory Cal remains untouched when User Cals are loaded and with the press of a button the Factory Cal is returned as a failsafe fallback position.
Getting to this point should never have been so difficult.  |O

::)

The mouldings certainly don't seem to match the usual Tek standards, did they outsource the manufacture of this?
In contrast the plastics on the 222 are as good as any other Tek product that I have.

Been idly looking at the internals of that Beamex pressure calibrator I got while I try to revive the SLA, and I can see an AD587KH in there... not too shabby!
The battery may yet recover some degree of usefulness, the cells are fairly well balanced and I've been poking it with various currents and voltages; it's not wholly dead, that much is certain. How much capacity can be recovered remains to be seen however. The cost of replacements for these means that if it can't be made useful again, I'll replace it with some sort of Ni-MH bodge.

It's old school time tonight!

I snagged a Avometer HD for not much money at all (around 10€ plus domestic shipping) some time ago. Tonight, I decided to check it out. It is quite scruffy, but in one piece mostly. The rubber feet are history, though. I guess I'll rummage around for some in my parts bins, and stick them on.

Observations:
  • It is reasonably accurate. * /100 Ωhms mode with 1000 DDR Ω (Siemens & Halske works in Erfurt, I mean VEB RFT Karl-Marx-Stadt) connected yields a perfect "10".
  • No internal gorilla traces what so ever. There was a sad "D" size cell in the battery compartment, measuring about 1,1V, which had to go. New one fitted.
  • It reads a bit low on the 10V DC range; which is all I tested except Ohms. Composition resistors going high? Most of them are Welwyn wire-wound, but there are a few ones that don't look like that.  I've got a Avominor doing the same, and there the forum discussions mentioned composition resistances wandering.
  • When you want to adjust the hardware of old UK electric devices, having a B.A. spanner set is a necessity. I've used them perhaps 5 times, but I have the set and that, having the gear, is what counts, right? I must admit I've been looking at 1/4" socket sets in B.A. Just because! They exist, at insane prices from manufacturers like Ko-Ken, or as cheap sets, from Laser Tools in the UK.

I keep finding the strangest 'unstruments' on the web.

Here one from India:
https://www.japson.com/conversion-of-galvanometer-into-a-voltmeter-ammeter.html
Just the title is a hoot!

And what the world needed - another talking multimeter:
http://www.microseveninc.com/vm10brochure.htm
The one from Voltcraft was bad enough while it kept to one language.

Note to self: Shake it off! Look at something functional and precise and forget that it exists!

My Fluke meter talks to me too! It keeps saying "Please clean my yellow bumper" and "Buy me some decent test leads" :)

McBryce.
Mine sez "Why'd you have to put me next to this old geezer...? It was bad enuf hangin' widdat prehistoric scope..."  :-DD

As for that talking meter... my favorite was the part aboot it "making diag faster not having to look up at the meter" even tho it reads the data out one... digit... at... a time...  :palm:

mnem
"Yer hangin' with us now buddy; dignity has nuthin to do with it."

I have an old railway about 10 miles from me. They run steam trains, old London Transport tube trains and also Diesel Electric locos as well along the line and every Christmas they run special services with Santa onboard for the kids and serve hot meals on it as well.

So now that I have all the gremlins out of the mini 212 I find myself without a follow on project. That's dangerous because then I'll wander the streets and get myself in trouble...  >:D
You should get you a shiny new [FLUKE] 27 with his & hers probulators. That'll keep you off the street for at least a week.  :-DD
