As always, rapid exothermic chemical reactions are your friend.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Quick TM501 session. It's duff. Woohoo. I am happy finally...

Blue bastards      Negative DC volts. FAIL      Positive DC volts. Also FAIL

Tek DSO that really only works best as a Analog Scope.   Also FAIL... :-DD

It looks almost pathetic with those little capacitors in it  :-DD

Yea new stuff is better made and can be smaller. I run into that "look" issue a lot.  :)

Me too.  :-+

The consensus on the badcaps forums is generally quite the opposite, and they do have a point: the larger mass of the older designs means they can soak up a lot of ripple and dissipate it as heat for a lot longer service life before they dry out and start to suck.

I highly doubt those new one will last 30-40 years (or more...?) before they croak like the OEM ones did.  :-//

Here on the job, I have the possibility of being the new owner of a Tektronix 7854, with cart, 4 plug-ins, all original manuals, programming kybd, and other stuff inside the cart drawer. Unknown operational status, but nice shape. Am I crazy to want it? I am already out of room.  :palm:

You have to ask? Yes, you are crazy to want it but we're all crazy here so just go and get it. Out of room? So am I but that hasn't stopped me.
IMO you'd be crazy to leave it, but I'm not wrapped all that tightly.   :-//

I received this TEA Mug today. Thanks to Henrik_V & the guy who sent it to us!  :-DD

Let me introduce myself to you: EEVBlog TEA Mug

I'm hanging out in a lab, let me give you a lab tour...

Here's a photo with my ol' buddy HP 35670A! An excellent FFT analyzer!

I'm pretty strong, I can lift a Keithley 197 Autoranging Microvolt DMM

This guy is a chonker but no problem for me! Keithley 181 Nanovoltmeter

Here I'm being lifted by my friend Fluke 5700A... Stronk ppm!

When you're standing on "shoulders of giants", you know it must be a HP/Agilent 3458A... he can also carry his buddy Agilent 33220A FGen, too -- without losing the ppm's!

My attempt to work as a Tektronix 7704A plugin... Bad idea - maybe?  :scared:

And this concludes our lab tour today. Here I'm stacked on a Booster Mug (SpaceX-style)!

Have a nice coffee TEA-time!  :-DD

If that were anywhere near me I'd buy it just for the fascia and spare display. :-//

I also would not utilize rapid exothermic chemical reactions for that, either. ;)

I asked for better entertainment - here it comes! A tank car with 25t of Chloromethane (UN 1063) derailed and tipped over at the railroad shunting yard. Full turnout. Or maybe I should say fullest turnout. No ignition yet.
Sounds like they were very very lucky and that thing held tight!

For the coyote files:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/133873591435

Q: What is wrong with that description?
A: Nearly everything! It is NOT programmable, it does NOT do arbitrary, it does NOT go to 80MHz and it is NOT a pulse generator.

Also, it is cheap Voltcraft dung and it is as mangy as a large pack of coyotes.

Hahahahaha that's one of those Franken-meters we were talking about in Discord last weekend!

Hmm, they seem to have the decimal in the wrong place... €14.00 seems more appropriate.

Today's update on the glowing Tek 575 curve tracer

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/tektronix-type-575-curve-tracer-repair-and-restoration/msg3687073/#msg3687073

just want to say thanks.

have enjoyed watching your progress.

ps  have to admit that following med is a tiny bit more fun because of the suspense associated with surgical/medical peril.

and GF activities. Vince do you have a GF to enter into the mix? Like, she could knock over an unobtainium part for the 575.

 :-DD

Hell no ! No GF or dog  in my house to mess with my stuff and drive me nuts !  I can put a fragile 575 CRT on the workbench then go to bed and sleep on both ears, knowing that when I wake up the next day, CRT will still be there in one piece !!  Priceless.
