Ok everyone, now that I'm back from getting the groceries in, here's an update on the Fluke input jack scenario. I raised a dispute with eBay covering my back, and the seller and I engaged in discussions and I outlined that I paid for a new item, not what was clearly a pull from a duff meter and supported it with some photos. A little while later he replies and gave me an apology, saying that he 2 stock bins, new parts in one and second hand in the other and that he had his children helping out in his store and that they must have picked the wrong item. Well it's very plausible, and he has given me a full refund, including the shipping and import taxes, so a very honest and trustworthy seller.
His eBay identity is
joelfriend and I attach his business card for the benefit of fellow members in the USA, you might like to about him as he seems to a really nice and fair person to do business with.
So end result is that I ended up with a nice Fluke 85 meter with good input jacks (even if they aren't new, they might well last the lifetime of the meter who can say, for not a lot of money after all.
