I'm friends with a bunch of the people who make UTC(SP) and distribute it to the country as "Swedish normal time" (although it's still UTC on the wire, of course).  They scratch the smiley from above. 100ns is a lot of deviation to them.

When I first saw that, I read it as Swedish Fish Time. :-DD

I think I like it better that way... :o

C-tick of approval. Painless apart from the paperwork  :-+
You really do need a haircut Bean !  :P

Monday for us.  :scared:
Hate needles despite having given many 100's to livestock.

Don't you have any livestock shears that you could lend to bean?

-- looks sideways at the repair queue and the dog clippers that need cleaning
Rats around in the shearing gear box.....

If we can call Bean an old ram then we would use the wide comb otherwise for old goats we use the fine narrow comb but they are best run on a slow shearing machine as they can get hot and the Bean would likely flinch however the wide comb also presents risk of cuts to the skin if not setup correctly....pick your poison !
You hold him and I'll give him the trim so he obviously needs.  :-DD

Sort of for Cerebus but also for me and or others I guess some additional PhysicaliTEA.

So still impressed with the Engineering on a budget. Closer cleaning and inspection then re assembly and measuring of the bits this afternoon. Threads after desludging and a proper clean are well formed and smooth. Surface ground parts have an excellent finish on them in particular given the price point.

Now onto the measurement bits. Initial measurements were of the three main bits individually and were all within 0.1mm in general so +-0.05mm or +-0.002".

Parts clean and dry fit on the initial rebuild then I will strip it backdown and grease and oil the appropriate bits. Looking at how this was likely machined is the base was flipped upside down and surface ground on a mag chuck against the lower ways so under it is very close to flat and it moved on the surface plate fairly evenly. Then the first stage was assembled and back off to the surface grinder again. The Red numbers are the assembled deviation so very close to taking out any deviations in the milled surfaces between.

Top slide was then installed and then I suspect a final grind to finish. With a little playing with the gibbs and depending on the slide position it seems to sit at around +-0.1mm or about +-0.004" I will recheck it with some oil on the ways but I doubt it will change that much. Depending on the Mag chuck and care/speed of the final grind this could have been improved but again for a price driven item more than acceptable. If I was seriously in need of it being flat then a box of beers and a visit to the surface grinder for a minor tweak would get it even closer if needed.

So very far from horrid tough rugged and way better than most drilling and even light milling needs with a little tweaking of the drill/mill head to it.

" Clarksons Farm "

I'm actually aghast at TV companies continuing to work with that man. Pompous git. From the trio, the only one (whose screen persona) I can stand is May. As indicated by the parentheses above I might be bloody well fooled by what is shown and what is not.

Middle son has a Top Gear addiction, so am forced, as Good Dad, to watch episodes. We've long since run out of the ones where there's only May.  :scared:

Some TWT porn for your viewing pleasure. I like how simple these 490 series amplifiers really are. The RF goes in the front panel, goes through the TWT, and comes out bigger. That's it.

Like you, IIRC, I'm not certain I know why I want one, but am pretty certain I feel some desire. Mmm, Watkins-Johnson RF gear.. Nearly always 3-digit serial numbers or less, full-on milspec build quality, insane performance, very unclear service history (as in who bought it, where did they use it, et c.) , and mucho desirable.

Edit: I'm mostly doing RF hobby at 2m and 70cm, with a bit of HF, so is not even my frequency range preference. Still.

Gonna be 96 F (36 C) here today. And as typical in Summer my monthly electric bill nearly doubles. I'll gladly pay it to be comfortable. Funny to hear Bean describe his Aussie Winter. That's not Winter my good man. This is Winter......  ;D

Some decades back hunting Bambi in mid NI NZ we came across the camp of an old bushman and were invited to stay the night. A real character and great host was Punchy Wallace whom was mostly self sufficient in his tarp bivy and we were fed well on his venison and pork hocks boil up.
Next morning started with tea then after a couple while yarning 50/50 tea and coffee and a couple more later onto just coffee !  :o
About 11am and we were thinking of making tracks and the lid got popped of his first quart beer bottle of the day !
We knew from the day before sherry was next and still a good few miles from camp so we legged it outta there only to return later as promised to empty our camp larder as thanks for putting us up on our last night in the bush.
Memories......

Only recently heard the old guy had passed some 10 years back.  :(

OMG... this has to be the height of something... and the nadir of something else. It is the "connected age" equivalent of a propeller beanie; a dash-vent smartPwn holder with decorative propellers.  :o

There is just a universe of fail here; starting with the egregious pointlessness of it all, leading to the inevitable incapability to perform its basic function and finishing with the fact it is designed such that it will place spinning propellers right over the touchscreen.  |O

And somebody got paid to design this fucking thing. :palm:

mnem

So you go out and buy a fancy new BMW with a 3kW HVAC system that can blast you with all the cool air you could ever want... and then mount some piss-ass Chinese fans in front of the air outlets??  :wtf:

Got 5 minutes to post this so will do so now. Woke up at 5AM this morning for some reasons. Couldn't sleep so at 7AM I decided I'd sort out a calibration issue I have.  In this case the Fluke 87 doesn't agree with the rest of my meters since I got it which are all bang on the same reading. This is a rarity and I will put it down to the previous owner futzing with it potentially. The cal manual says it should match the source of 3.500 to +/- 1 count. I'm not too bothered about absolute accuracy for my needs but relative accuracy is important so I've chosen to just cal against my existing meters.

Before

Quick wiggle of R21. Joy to the older Fluke 87's which don't have software driven cal - just two pots and two trimcaps :-+. Job done:

Voltage source here was my PL320 but next time I'm using the E3630 and a 10 turn potentiometer as a divider to get some better stability and resolution.

If your 87 drifted that far off it would really surprise me. I agree with you that the prior owner used an inaccurate source to "calibrate it". I've never had to touch the trim pots on mine.

It comes to something when someone is stupid enough to physically cut through the instructions that say:

(My own 'spicy pillow' recently extracted from an iPhone.)

What, so "cut" doesn't equate to "puncture", "crush" or "disassemble" in this genius' mind?

I begin to have some sympathy for the writers of those warning texts that I find annoyingly verbose and over-prescriptive. Perhaps we need to move to AvE style "Not for use by fuckwits." labelling. The problem there being that fuckwits are usually the last to acknowledge that they are fuckwits; sort of the ultimate Dunning-Kruger effect.

Do not fold, spindle or mutilate.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?
