Gaaaaaah fuck the universe. Just spent 2 damn hours trying to get DisplayPort audio working on my PC. Then I trip over this nugget: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1045437/ .... Just magic reset your BIOS. It works?!?!?!?! But why?!?!?!?!!

I am seriously not impressed with this Asus board. Hardware is fine but the firmware is awful. ASRock was better.

Now that I think of it... why are you faffing aboot with gawwdamn DP anyways? While it supposedly is "the best thing since sliced bread", in practice, since they're constantly arguing over what's going to be in the next revision, it almost never works as advertised.

Meanwhile, almost every time, unless your cable falls out HDMI just works. Version mismatch? No problem; you just get kicked back to 60FPS. But it still works.  :-//

Woah! I get busy for a little while and we go flying past 96,000 posts?!? 2000 messages just went right by. :o

meanwhile the TEA thread has a sticky from Dave and were mentions in the last mail-bag video.  :-+

Wow! I haven't watched the recent mailbag, yet, but I did see the sticky on the thread. We're not worthy!

OK, going to go watch the mailbag now.

--------

That was very cool. Sent Dave a thank-you DM.

Congrats, Tony, on your bench getting featured! Your lab sure has grown since you first arrived. ;D

HDMI doesn’t just work here. I can’t shift more than 30Hz on HDMI for some reason. Also HDMI connectors are total shit. And on top of that don’t get me started on HDCP incompatibilities.

Oculus, the info you requested in the Type 454 Horizontal Amplifier.

Voltage drop across R1014. 66.8V.

Voltage drop across R1024. Identical 66.8V.  (Trace on center line, Horizontal position centered, no signal, trigger set to Auto.)

I'll leave the scope out of the case for the rest of the day in case you need more data. I will not be on Discord later today.

Depressed that my car brakes need replacement I've bought 500 of these HLMP-ED31-QT000 for 8euroni. If someone needs Agilent original LEDs, let me know  :-DD

These Precision Optical Perform ance AlInGaP and AlInGaP II LEDs provide superior light output for excellent readabil-ity in sunlight and are extremely reliable. These LED lamps are untinted, nondiff  used,  T-1¾  packages  incorporating  second  generation  optics  producing  well  defi ned spatial radiation patterns at specifi c viewing cone angles. These  lamps  are  made  with  an  advanced  optical  grade  epoxy,   off   ering   superior   high   temperature   and   high   moisture  resistance  performance  in  outdoor  signal  and  sign   applications.   The   high   maximum   LED   junction   tempera  ture  limit  of  +130°  C  enables  high  temperature  operation   in   bright   sunlight   conditions.   The   package   epoxy  contains  both  uv-a  and  uv-b  inhibitors  to  reduce  the eff  ects of long term exposure to direct sunlight.

If one reads the superlatives in the datasheet, you've probably bought the best LEDs available ever ;)

Just got myself a Wavetek LT 8155 set, for £50 shipped.

Both batteries are somewhat tired, but I may be able to rejuvenate or re-cell them. More annoyingly, the only accessory included is the calibration adapter.
So now I either have to see how much WWG want for some RJ45 adapters, or have the patience to wait for some to appear on the bay of evil...
Oh, and the flash ROM lithium cell is at ~2.93V so needs replacing too.

Still, for the price, I can't complain.

So much nope!

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/buysellwanted/agilent-34401a-286199/

Giblets, that is crusty af. I would hesitate to pay half that amount, for an HP branded 01A with obvious first-stage display driver failure.

Buy this badly listed 3478A with a lowball offer instead, and do all the data manipulation at the other end of an HPIB cable:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144142988949

I mean, if you're gonna spunk a fat wedge on an HPAK DMM at least get a modern one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194274209080

Something for you to repair, BD?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384316119462

There's a slew of these from this seller. They're in Israel...  anyone feeling brave?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224560747072

And finally, for those who are fed up of frivolous tubes, here are some serious ones:

Yeah the suspicious colouring in around the edges is "interesting" as well. I'd pay 50 for it just to see though  :-DD

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174874314987

Those are classified as "dangerous as fuck tubes". They are microwave tubes and are chock full of Berylium Oxide.

here's a slightly less serious but still interesting tube which was used for submarine cable repeaters. You can see the level of seriousness for all these things which are roughly "thou must not fail".

Dread to think how much these tubes cost when they were new considering in the early 80s I couldn't even afford obsolete ones from the local radio shop so had to go routing through the trash and things left on the side of the street for them :palm:

As for the Sansui, I am currently readjusting my lifestyle around older technology so that might be of interest

At least it doesn't look like it was dragged through the desert like most Israeli stuff. If it were here I might take a shot at it. But from there? Nope.  ::)
