I did marry her.  Most of the tools in my 61" tool chest is her enabling including the tool chest.  All the big power tools are her enabling.  She justifies it by saying she has a project for using it.  She has even enabled me by giving me the go ahead for the parts for the semi-custom rifle that my son and I are going to build.  I am always hitting the ground running to keep up with the quid pro quo.

Nice. My main tool is one of those, a suppressed Rem Model 7. Only bolt actions permitted here.
Cop and an Army chap used our range today to check a 7mm08 was OK before a hunting trip and another mate and NZ Police Arms officer comes in the morning to sight in his bolt action Grendel.
Someone is always visiting to scratch that itch on their forefinger here.

I don't think there'd be much to display. If I'm reading that right those are prepared type N wafers ready to go into the beginning of the transistor/IC production process. So they'd just be very good, but rather dark, mirrors.

New toy arrived.   Uni-T  UT330TH.   

I use temperature and RH loggers at work but this one is mine.       


Seen here next to an older Measurement Computing USB-502.  I take them home at the weekends to download data and set it to log again.  (work from home 4 days a week)    This looks like a rebranded Lascar  EL-USB-2, which is still sold.   The Lascar is about £50 from RS.       Resolution of 0.5C, 1C accuracy and  holds 16,000 measurements.   A 1/2AA lithium primary cell runs it for about a year.

Both require propriatary software to work.  You use their app to set up the logger and then download the data.   The UT330TH has limited control from the device.  You can start and stop logging with buttons, which the  USB-502 can not do.

Both blink a green LED when taking a reading.  Both also have high and low limit alarms and will flash if the alarm is triggered.   However the  LEDs on the 502 are normally covered over by the cap that seals off the USB connector.  The cap is translucent but it makes it hard to see the LEDs.  That is annoying.

The  Uni-T has a 0.3C resolution, 1C accuracy and a 64,000 reading memory.   The extra memory is usefull, as I normally collect measurments for two weeks or more before downloading the data.   Power is from a CR2032 and is supposed to last 6 months.  I will be surprised if it really lasts that long.


I'm running them now to see if the Uni-T is within the specified 1 degree accuracy.      At $35.81 with VAT and shipping,  it will be a bargain if it meets specs.

Hmmmm.... I hadn't looked that closely.  They need something etched to give colour, otherwise it would be boring, as you say.

Hmmmm.... I hadn't looked that closely.  They need something etched to give colour, otherwise it would be boring, as you say.

This day has been chosen by SWMBO to celebrate the annum of my arrival on this spinning ball of dirt; as a result I am taking the day off from counting calories/carbs that I may fully enjoy my loaded carrot-cake. This also allows me freedom to partake of one of my favorite European-style breakfasts; pancakes/waffles/crepes with fruit preserves and ham & cheese. In this case, a local producer of strawberry preserves which sweet confection is very reminiscent of the strawberry jam my grandmother used to make from scratch.

I'm 10 years old again and all is right with the world, if only for this moment...
