This is absolutely bizarre. I connected up the supply and it would climb to about 3VDC, refuse to go any higher, and the current would jump up to over 1.5A and the supply would go into constant current mode. My thought was the supply was defective. So I connected the little
hp 6215A (30V max, 500ma). Same thing. The supply would climb to about 2VDC then the current would peg at 500ma. Checked my connections. Are correct. Did a resistance test with the 87. 1932 ohms!
That's no short. But apparently whatever it is DOES short out at a minimum amount of voltage applied. Went over the scope checking for hot spots or smoke. Found none.
I kept trying to raise the voltage and suddenly was able to get up to about 30VDC before it would short out again. Then while raising the voltage heard a little snap and now I can achieve 100V. Current 350ma which seems a little high. I'm going to let it sit as shown for maybe an hour or so and see what happens. Tomorrow I'll probably attempt to power up the entire supply with this external 100V.
This is fucking weird.
