I kinda like Tarja Turunen better.

or Aurora.

or Einar Selvik ...

but that is a question of personal preference, I don't deny that Freddie Mercury was a great singer.

reading all those worrying stories, I think it is time for some fun.

I like the girl in blue.  :-+  :-DD

Q: "Will there ever be a singer as great as Freddie Mercury?"  A: "oh, there already is, and her name is Beyoncé"  :palm:  I'll let him slide because he's just a kid, but seriously?!?   :wtf:  (And I'm not even a really big Queen fan - much prefer The Kinks)

-Pat

Yeah that’s just terrible.

Brendan Perry from Dead Can Dance gets my vote for best singer.

I undertake tonight's mission knowing that there are dangers.  I undertake it knowing that I may pop a hernia and have to have a catheter shoved up you know where.  I undertake it accepting these risks.

If successful, I will post pictures later tonight.

WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS...?!?

Because I haven't gotten my dose of    in at least a week, now that sufficiently voluminous DL/DVD-R media has arrived, I'm taking the deep dive and trying to install OSX Mavericks on one of the data drives from this MacPro that I've scavenged all the music & movies off of. ;)

It took extreme measure to get the damned Mac to even read the disc, but it appears this build is a modded version intended to make life easier for Hackintosh-ery... however, it said my Mac could run it, so I'm (hopefully) going to let it finish installing, then use the resultant running OSX to build a bootable EL CAPITAN install USB from a .dmg downloaded direct from Apple.

Pray for me... point & laugh at the crazy tinkerdwagon... try and hold a intervention... whatevs...  :-//

I'm in misery... I need company. The Mavericks install was pretty painless... took 20 minutes or so. Now, running the creatinstallmedia utility... that's another story. First off, anything that requires command line dickery from a terminal in an OS I just installed half an hour ago is not my idea of a fun first date.  :-DD

Secondly... this thing is sooooo slow creating the media... like 15 minutes to put 115MB of a 6GB or so image to the USB. Seriously...?

EDIT: Hmmm... this is looking more like some DRM BS fuckerization now; it suddenly jumped up to ~6GB on the USB, but no progress on the creatinstallmedia utility running in Terminal. Now it's been frozen at exactly the same ~6GB point for 30 minutes without progressing at all to the next step of copying boot files to the USB.

EDIT-EDIT: Hmmm-hummm-hmmmm... Another sudden burst of activity, and now it says "Copy Complete. Done." in the creatinstallmedia utility in Terminal, with all the expected steps in between. ???

I'm back from the Specialist and without all the gory details I have to go back tomorrow for testing and on April 20th for more testing. I'm gonna feel like a fucking pincushion by the time their done. FML.

Stopped on the way home and bought some beer. Yep, Killian's Irish Red. Gonna get mildly shit faced this afternoon. Already had one and damn it tasted good.

UPS finally got their head out of their ass and delivered the Mouser order.

One of my favorites.  Still 1 in the fridge.  I might join you.

Close; Dual Xeon E5472 (Quad-Core/, 3.00 GHz/12MB/1600 MHz FSB) & 20gigs ECC RAM. It was one of the first of Apple's EFI Boot machines... hence all the duck-fuckery and testicular homicide. So close... I suppose worst case I could just do a upgrade install over this hacked version of OSX... just to play with it. But would really prefer a full clean install from a known .dmg.

The best part of OS X is that you can fix things the proper way, using a bunch of autistic CLI tools and an even more autistic text editor. One is never so close to actually talking to the machine as one is at the terminal.

Autism can be relieved by things like
Code: [Select]
treize:hp mansaxel$ iostat 10
              disk0               disk3       cpu    load average
    KB/t  tps  MB/s     KB/t  tps  MB/s  us sy id   1m   5m   15m
   19.14   29  0.54    66.30    0  0.00   4  4 92  1.85 1.56 1.53
   34.18    8  0.26     0.00    0  0.00   3  3 94  1.64 1.53 1.52
in another terminal.

Always have a spare interactive terminal for poking sticks at thar computerizer

One of them is weeping oil, so it looks like there will be some teardown pictures at some point.

(The left hand arm is slightly loose where it emerges from the to cap; I'm hoping that it's something that can be easily tightened once the retaining collar has been unscrewed.  Some quick google searching hasn't gotten me any images or exploded views to let me know the internal construction of this kind of standard, so my fingers are crossed that I don't bugger it up.)
