Gah I keep coming to make a TE post and then getting distracted...   :blah:

I dug out my Time Electronics 2003N Voltage Potentiometer for checking something and was quite puzzled as to why I couldn't get an output from it.
Seems I forgot that when I removed the crystal formation formerly known as the internal NiCd battery, I had also snipped the AC line inputs.   :palm:

After repairing that damage, and checking again the charger voltage (~21-23V) I got to thinking about making a new pack. Surprise surprise, HobbyKing are out of stock of AAA LSD NiMH at the UK warehouse.

I considered using a 5S Li-xx pack, for at least a minute before dismissing it as an unnecessary fire hazard.
Guess it'll have to wait until they have stock back in.

Ok, I can use it on mains until then, let's replace this M205 fuse and, wait, wtf..? Good grief, it's not a 5x20, it's a 5x15mm. Seriously, what the actual?
Bollocks to it, bullied an M205 315mA ceramic jobby into the holder.   :wtf:

Anyhoo, after all that, and letting it warm up some, it seems it's very marginal on whether it meets its 0.02% spec. Unless all my meters that can read accurately enough are all out by about the same amount and in the same direction, it's outputting about 3-4mV high on the 9.9999V setting.

We really need a lockdown lift so I can load all my crap in the car and take it to one of those meets where voltnuts bring transfer standards with them.   :horse:

For the guys who sent me PM's asking if I was OK I tried to respond over my phone but I forgot my blog password and it locked me out. But I can't tell you how much I appreciate the inquiries concerning my well being. We have a great caring group here.  :-+

So, where have I been? In the hospital. The pain in my lower back kept coming back and was getting worse. And I was having trouble urinating. Wednesday afternoon I called an ambulance. There was no way I could drive.

So, what happen?  I give you the short skinny. I have a hernia. That hernia, combined with old man enlarged prostrate (which turns out isn't all that enlarged after all) basically caused my bladder to lock up. Apparently a normal adult bladder can hold about 750ml. They inserted a catheter and took 2 LITERS of urine out. And was backing up into my kidneys. ER doc was real concerned that my kidneys were damaged and initial blood work showed they were in distress. I can tell you that luckily my kidneys recovered and they are OK.  :phew: AND.....as soon as that catheter was inserted and bladder drained my pain was gone and has been gone since Wednesday.

I am home. With a catheter and urine bag strapped to my leg. I have to wear it at least a week along with medication. It's not uncomfortable as long as I'm sitting. But I can tell you it's no fun having a metal tube stuck up your you-know-what.  :palm: I have to make an appointment with the urologist and once the declared good and the catheter removed then I have to schedule surgery for the hernia. Big fun but have no choice. I'm alive but I look and smell like Aqualung and need a shower and shave and then relax.

BTW...my son took the duff tire (tyre) and new one and is getting it mounted for me.

today was an expensive day.

notebook reinstalled. Waiting for admin privs to reinstall Vitis (the Xilinx stuff)

The thurlby gizmo arrived. Need to check it out, maybe take an old C64 board to crosscheck if it is working.
Went to mafia market to buy a game for the switch.
found another rather expensive, but heavily discounted glass shard - Canon RF 50 f1.2.
Got 1500 brussels pesos discount ...
could not resist.

Thanks everyone. Papa Smurf doing a happy dance.

In day or so my Son is going to bring back the new tire mounted and he's going to swap it with the temporary spare. He looked at the spiked tire and it can't be saved. He knows because he works as a collision specialist at a major vehicle collision firm. But to get at the duff tire he had to remove the Type 547. Now he is my height but built stouter. He lifted that 547 like it was a plug-in.  :-DD It's currently in the garage and when he returns he'll bring it up here.

fridge and freezer were delivered yesterday. I ordered "with installation" for 74 pesos extra. Did not want to fart around with frickeling this into the wooden kitchen cabinets. Very well invested money. They were a lot faster than I could have done it, and they burnt their calories, not mine.

China fun. These were only dispatched on Monday which was quite impressive. So £7.62 including delivery from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254721451632

Much like the previous Bliley ones I ordered, the band saw is cheaper than desoldering them. I love how they blasted straight through the unfortunate ICs at the bottom.

Will desolder and test later. Fingers crossed!

Edit: minor rant. Stuff from China is taking 4-6 days at the moment. Stuff from EU, 2-3 weeks and 50% of it doesn't turn up  >:( >:( >:(

Those are so cheap I did an "Aw fuck it, why not?" and ordered a couple to add to my collection of OCXOs. I've spent typically about £15 a piece on similar spec'ed used OCXOs purchased from the middle kingdom before.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Well good news so far. Apart from being an absolute bastard to get off the provided boards, both of them appear to work.

HP and Fluke pile doing the business on this one:

Both sit at 370mA approx until hot then settle at 250mA. Both adjustable to 10.00000000 easily but that's only a crystal ref.

3478A showing control voltage, 8060A showing device voltage, Fluke 25 showing device current, 5384A showing output frequency, supplied with wonky 6205B as I needed separate supply and control voltages.

...Unfortunately, the list of supported GPUs is pretty short. And surprise, surprise, surprise... only GPUs flashed with a Mac-specific FW will have the preboot splash.  :palm:
I'm pretty sure, like all the nvidias of that age, is hit by bumpgate; maybe try an "oven reflow"?
Yeah, I actually had considered this; I've been eyeing my cheap hot-air rework station all morning over coffee. So far, the coffee has won out every time.  :-DD

Of course, curiosity ultimately won out... as it always does with the ol' tinkerdwagon. Appropriate flux for the task has been ordered; and I'll have a chance to put my recent Panavise gift to work.  ;D

Been using light vegetable oil on suede since my youth on the farm. If it were something important like tack it would get saddle soap and neatsfoot oil. This is just a old watchband I'm not even sure I really like; not interested in making an investment. But since y'all seem to mind so much, I'll rummage aboot in the pantry & see if I have a little light olive oil instead.  :P

The Columbia outdoorsman's watch responded well to my tender ministrations and has been keeping good time for the last few days (you timenuts need to hush now ;)); as I needed to make a minimum order for the flux mentioned above, I added a tin of mink oil to treat my hiking boots. A very small portion of that will make it to this well-loved band, so those who were aghast at my suggestion of vegetable oil abuse can rest easy.  :-DD

Side issue @Pat speaking of old connectors any luck or decision on the 740B replacements? I haven't really found a 1kV rated plug and socket I like as an alternate yet  :-//

There is half a rocking horse turd on ePay France at the moment if it's any use, maybe worth asking if they have the other to go with it.

Yuck on the week's exploits.  :P Yay on the resolution. I'm glad it wasn't a UTI, which I feared when you disappeared for a while after complaining of back pain. My dad had a similar occurrence a few years back; intense "back pain" that turned out to instead be a UTI, and I had a similar episode before that with inflammation from a kidneystone myself.

Welcome back, ye blue-arsed bitch>:D I found this really nice hi-res version of your alter-ego lurking elsewhere on the intardnet; decided to save it for you. ;)

This is a place where manually selecting your infill may be necessary. If I were doing this, I'd manually select GRID infill at 1-2mm spacing, then instead of skirt adhesion, I'd choose BRIM, 2-3mm wide, outside only, with MIN DISTANCE set at approx 1 or 2 line width, so 0.4mm or 0.8mm. This still helps adhesion with large prints like this, which are prone to curling/lifting due to walls at the perimeter, while being easy to remove.

Cheers,

mnem

We have different machines, I don't have those infill options, only infill overlap and fill density % settings.

If you're using Cura, Settings visibility is something you configure; many of their "pre-fab" printer profiles do not have nearly all the proper settings enabled.

If not, feel free to ignore that advice, or maybe experiment with Cura. ;)
