Re: Electronic Loads

As "good" and "reasonable price tag" ones appear to be quite rare at the usual sources, and for a project I needed one with CC / CV / CP modes that can do more power than the HP6632B, I bought a cheap one two months ago:
The Kunkin KP184 - 400W in a quite small box. Nothing fancy, not a reputable brand, totally misplaced between all the Toellner, Heinzinger, Oltronix, HPAK etc power supplies, but it does the job.

Are RS brand tants usable or crap?

Am reconsidering my recap'ing strategy on the Studer 169 mixer which started out as "doing the FRAKO lytes only" into "do the tants too".

The parallel nature of analog mixing desks makes for slightly insane component counts even for simple circuits (and this one is deceptively simple!); I'm ways through a 200 large stash of 100µF and 220µF electrolytes and not done. So, any component I select is going to hit some volume discount, but in some cases still expensive.

I usually buy them here: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/capacitors/tantalum-capacitors.html

Take a couple of weeks to turn up.

RS are ridiculously expensive

They also apparently sell kids for 560$

https://www.taydaelectronics.com/triacs/g8580-dup-wima-fks2-4-7-nf-0-0047uf-100v-5-polyester-film-box-type-capacitor.html

That's just the piece price, it's the TCO that will cost you a fortune. :D

I think, I'll order next month an electronic load from Maynuo @Welectron.
This one: https://www.welectron.com/Maynuo-M9812-Electronic-Load

I need an electronic load. I've already not done some things because of the absence of the same, and I've got projects in the pipeline that would make good use of one. I've been looking for a second hand one for a goodly while, but so far I've come up empty. I'm close to the point where I'm considering buying new, but every time I start looking at them, like that Maynuo, I keep coming up against the prices. That Mayuno is €620 and it seems a lot for what it is. I'm having a hard time persuading myself that the price of a very good HP 34401A is worth it for an electronic load.

Is it just me, or do other people think that the prices for electronic loads are rather high in terms of "bang per buck" compared to other types of TE?
Yes,
I built my own years ago. Just a bunch of power MOSFETS in parallel on a fan cooled heatsink. Initially I just drove the gates with athe summed output of a 10 turn pot and a pulse generator (for step response) but later added a couple of op-amps for feed back.

Possibly also a serious lower back problem...

Anybody an idea where to get these nice 4mm banana adapters for the input jacks?

Do you really need the 300W version? I got a 150W Maynuo M9710 on Aliexpress for under €250 with free shipping. Great piece of kit. Invaluable when you are designing/testing a PSU.

I would not take that lot for free delivered. No market for analog video vectorscopes and those modern ones have mostly custom devices.

Exactly, it's worth it for the common parts, not to mention the cases for projects.

True, analog vector scopes are kind of "meh", even though we at work still produce PAL blackburst in our synchronisation plant.  Most of our measurement stations for video retain PAL analysis capacity as an oldtimer nod.
The AES3 monitors did pique my interest, though. That's something we still use.

Buyer will be able to recoup purchase price just recycling the loose bits of aluminum.  :-DD

I do see a lot of smashed bezels and screen burn... honestly, being stripped for BNCs and knobs might be the best thing anyone could do for that little mountain of obsolescence.  :-[

You never know. That crazy person who bought my D83 junker ages ago wanted to use it for a stage prop, didn’t know that it was as large and heavy as it was and wanted to get me to show her how to put a sine wave on the screen  :palm:. Turned up expecting to take it home on a bus  :-DD

Seriously? Are we gonna pick up where we left off yesterday? Robert was merely pointing out that they are 75 ohm BNC's. Not much good for anything unless you own a cable TV company or security camera outfit.

You should feel embarrassed......you made a fool of yourself yesterday and here we are, different day, same attitude. I frankly feel embarrassed for you watching the crap fly back and forth. I think it's safe to say that many in here are beginning to think you're a whiny gash.  I suspect you don't want that.

Now step away from the keyboard, go stand in the corner, kick yourself in the ass 10 times, and come back a new person.   :scared:
