This is the PSU/Z-Axis/Misc board removed from Curly. It has over $60 USD worth of new tants/electrolytics in the PSU section. I'm not going to let that go to waste so it's going into Larry. As you can see there are still a load of original tants on this board plus a crap load scattered through out the rest of the scope. Replacing all of them will break the bank so it's take your chances.

Hi back again after fighting through ### of pages catching up..      

I sold my HP 4260A universal bridge ten days ago. Made a little money with it. 

Even better: The buyer will be using it in his company for production purposes!
It's a little business that also uses several other classic HP TE like 3457A, 3488A, 3467A, 3314A, 3581A, 8510C, 8350B, 3435A, 5315A, 8560A..
The 4260A will be in good company...what makes it easier for me to cope with having it sold.      

The buyer wrote me he likes classic HP TE stuff because it's mostly rock stable, still possible to repair and over all good bang for buck. 

Would fit in here possibly.

I'm not sure he'd fit in. Unlike many here, it sounds like he only buys stuff that he actually needs.

   yesterday I finally got around to setting up my turntable ...

Improvisation (as with the rack) is the most stable of kludges. As long as it works, you will most likely not fix it. This is my nice vintage stereo set which also includes an internet radio / CD / flac / what have you media streamer (the black case between cd player and preamp).

All in all I must say that I am quite happy with the stereo set. I do not see too many ways to improve it without throwing loads of money into it (which is something I am currently not inclined to do). Turntable works perfectly. I just had to open the Preamp to set the capacity for the phono section.

Lack table FTW, just like with everybody's 3DP...

Ahhh... nothing to worry aboot unless you go stacking them more than 3 high or so...

Never owned one... but did install a couple back in the day. Dual 140A alternators in a dB Drag races beast with 4x Reference1000 for reinforcement.

Looks like a variant of the ShortSqweek; a project from (I think) Nuts & Volts back in the day. They fell out of disfavor because it was difficult to make an effective circuit that was safe to use with CMOS electronics.   
   Frenchy's version definitely does look to be worth pursuing, tho.  Should be tits for locating shorted tants.

The problem is that most of those devices stopped to work properly with the introduction of massive ground planes.

Wouldn't matter for tracing a power rail unless more than one shorted part.

Depends what it's burning, as far as I know some steam vehicles burn oil instead.
As for the KESSELSPEISEWASSER! I'm sure most gas stations will have overpriced Peckham spring instead.

nah, don't need that kinda stuff.

in the left of that stereo set photo you see my tiny speakers. Quadral Vulkan Mk 3, 1230 x 413 x 462 mm ~ 150 lbs a piece, Transmission Line speaker which requires an AMP with some Oomph. I was lucky enough to trade a PC for that Threshold Power AMP (which is absolutely fantastic) and also managed to get the proper preamp for it (the Sony TA-E86 that I had before is playing in the same league, however the Threshold is a wee bit better when combined with that Threshold power amp) I now have that Sony plus a Nakamichi PA 5E Mk2 poweramp (which is of Nelson Pass design) playing with the Quadral Montan Mk 3 in my other flat. Both setups are very nice, and the quirk is that you don't have to play it loud to enjoy the music. Even though you could if you wanted, but my neighbors would most likely be underwhelmed.

If I had a house I would most likely update one last time and get the Quadral Titan Mk 3 and run it via an external crossover. I have enough power amps plus the crossover to do that, but it would mean lugging a 300 lbs speaker across the room. Currently I cannot be arsed with that task.

Did some frantical searching for some test leads, but managed to find my 2 MSO cables for the Keysights as well as my 2 leads kits. Phew.

Now I've fixed the intermittent crystal reference output problem with the HP 5245L I've put it back in the stack, here it is with the voltmeter plug-in, voltage source is the old RAM battery from the Tek scope.


I noticed one of those Solartron 7075 voltmeters (with a full set of feet) went for around £31 this week, I completely forget about it as I was a bit busy at the time, did anyone buy it?

Sorry Zucca, I do not trust German cars, I have to decline. Also, my Ford is probably better suited for my kind of stuff than any BMW could be (maybe with the exception of an X5, but I don't want that ...)

Quite right, I couldn't afford any steam engines or vehicles, or have anywhere to store one.
I wouldn't worry about the mineral content of Peckham spring, it's no worse than what comes out of the tap.

Gorgeous bird!  Didn't fully appreciate the lines until seeing one in the flesh at the Santa Monica Air Museum back in about 1994.
