Cloud computing is a scourge. It's great till it doesn't work, and your devices that depend on it wholecloth become doorstops.

Yeah... but FreeCAD suffers from the same disease they all do; it tries to be everything to all people, so nothing is obvious from the specific context of "What am I trying to create NOW?"; plus due to that complexity, it's so fucking obtuse I couldn't even figure out how to start a project.

After dicking around with it for over half an hour, I had the Part Design palette open and the Sketcher selected, but couldn't figure out how to select a workplane or even a tool, as everything on the toolbar was just greyed out and nothing would respond in any way, nor any kind of suggestions. |O

Fuck that noize. I gave it as long as it took for my hot gloo gun to warm up; now I'm gonna make what I need out of a pencil and a bottle cap.

Regarding those battery-related fears, I will always recall the large LiIon-cell (soda-can size) which was penetrated with a nail and, after a time, did even supply some current again.
Typically for the time, it was done by a guy with a hammer, although he wore safety goggles, gloves and a welder's leather apron.
The results were published in a NASA battery workshop paper somewhere in the 80s or 90s. Please don't make me find it, as this is a yearly recurring thing which has produced a lot of large documents.
They are all on the NTRS.

On a related note: If life hands you lemons, make...BATTERIES, of course.

and the exchange shitshow continued. They also changed the authentication method to some obscure hive scheme. Without submitting a change. Now I spent the whole day trying to find out how to reconnect some Feds to their email accounts  :palm:

Oh Lord, why don't you give me an ICBM ...

2 days to go until EOY.
Hope to survive them without too much anguish. May Heimdall and Skadi guide me.

I guess it's slightly worn and possibly every once in a while will need additional lubrication.

Bloody hell. 10 minutes too late at Reichelt. Missed out on a graphics card.
Picked up:

Ersa RDS 80 soldering iron
Raspi 4 B 2GB
7" TFT for Raspi
Wacom Tablet
Nexys 4 DDR FPGA training board
Digilent Xilinx JTAG cable
Digilent Analog Discovery 2 Labview bundle
USB-C Hub
uSD-Card 16 / 32 GB
some jumper wires
Fujitsu D3543-S3 Mainboard
Fujitsu D3474-B Mainboard

Those mainboards are mini ITX / mini ITX slim boards for embedded stuff. Such as my multimedia streamers.
Need to find out if I can build a BR playback thingie out of one.

Had to pay full price for the Nexys board  :'( which set me back quite some bucks.

-hp- 410b update:

  • I've done nothing to it but chuckle at the amount of hot air in forum posts it can agitate. You are very good at entertaining me!
  • I've got a stash of 1N4001, which from staring at data sheets oughta be safe to use here. (1,2V)
  • On second thought, I did get the old filter cap out, and put the new one in. Just going to procrastinate a bit on getting the Variac running

SwissMicros update: It's been on my carefully curated wish list for a while now. I have hopes.

No FreeCAD is a historical Frankenstein... some idea was develop then the next one and the next one... resulting on a jungle or tools.
Anyway every CAD is a frustation(360) sadomaso adventure, I prefer to have my dose of pain for free.

Now I am bored at the Marriott IAD hotel.... waiting for the tomorrow flight.

On the fourth bottle now  8)

thats the bottle with the lady on the label and a round wooden top?  loved the stuff.

but the rotten kid preferred some crap called "texas pete" and so the cholula hot sauce was banished.

the kid has been out on her own  for over 15 years and swmbo still will not buy the good stuff.

only got about 6 inches of snow and it was turning to light sleet as i started to clean off the snowblower (did my driveway, and one across the street, and one next door.   (the lady across the street pays me with homemade soup, and the lady next door usually drops off cookies).

I could have offered you some of that. All you needed to do was ask  :-//

Unfortunately I have to let go of my 2 blades with 1TB RAM each :(
They are out of support and our infrastructure wants them dismantled.

It just started here about an hour ago. So far light snow. Maybe an inch or two on the ground. Still calling for 16+ total.

And....the snowmobiles and ATV's are already out on the roads because they know the cops can't catch them.  :-//
