That picture was originally posted on some Facebook group then shared in the Tek Facebook group. Some of the comments from the original posting were interesting. Along the lines of "it is just old junk anyway, what is the big deal?" Unfortunate but that's how most folks view our beloved boat anchors.  :-//

And there's no guarantee when we finally take a dirt nap that our boat anchors won't suffer the same fate.  :scared:

That’s where a lot of hardware ends up of all sorts.

The worst thing I saw was not test gear. 200 HP desktop PCs new in box went to WEEE trash from NHS here. 6 months old boxes not even opened.  :palm: :palm: :palm:

I don't know how long ago that pix was taken but it's probably crushed and shredded by now and the scrap headed to China to make fucking Iphones.   >:(

From what I’ve seen stuff like this seems to end up ground up and inside tape dispensers to make them heavy.

Gee, thanks, it’s nice to be missed, must try harder nest week. I was engrossed in attempting to sift through my stash of growing pile of technology that most of you tossed over the hedge, spinning hard drives. A lot of people here are upgrading their old Virgin and Sky recorder boxes for the latest models with 1TB drives. So when I can get the old boxes, remove the 500GB drives, format them and use them as storage drives for the huge amount of photos I have taken over the years. These can plugged into the “hot swappable” caddy I have in the front of my tower PC.

I have a 1TB drive that I took out of an older NAS which for some reason works perfectly in the NAS but will not format in Windows, anyone have any ideas?

:'( :'( :'( Most of that looked in better condition than what turns up over here (well before it ended up in that pile), I can't help think all the glassware is still inside, they wouldn't have bothered to carefully put the covers back on, or those screening cans that are visible.
Some early digital meters in there too.  :palm:

Unfortunately this is what happens when someone dies and the relatives either don't have the time to deal with it or no interest, sadly this happens far too often.

Probably partition table or metadata corrupt. If you use diskpart (command line tool with windows):

1. list disk
2. sel disk N (where N is the disk you have just plugged in - be careful  :-DD)
3. clean
4. create par pri
5. assign

Then format it. Should work. If it doesn't you'll need a linux boot CD and use dd to write over the first 1Mb of the disk with zeroes.

med, what is dearly missed is a nice Tek cemetery with tombstones and stylish brass plates describing the dear departed.
This scrapyard is lacking even the least piece of dignity and that cannot be tolerated, IMHO.  :palm: :phew: :scared: :bullshit: :bullshit:

False negatives are, apparently an issue - but I can't quote figures.

Good luck!

Gee, I was gonna say "good deal" and along comes Debbie Downer leaving Op wondering. If false negatives are an unknown quantity did you have to be such a killjoy about it? If I were in his shoes now I'd go get tested AGAIN and risk another false negative.  ::)

Edit....or even a false POSITIVE.  :scared:

If it’s any consolation I’ve had it. They key symptoms were persistent high temperature and nasty cough and inability to move and complete loss of taste and smell. Didn’t even get a runny nose or snot or anything. That’s almost 100% consistent across all infected folk so take what you can from that. Temperature was manageable with paracetamol.

Main frustration was honestly the loss of taste and smell which didn’t come back for four weeks  >:(

Disclaimer: I have zero comorbidity risks. If you do have them then it can turn nasty quick. It finished my father in law off in two weeks.

No. If they did it was asymptomatic which is apparently not unusual in children.

Eldest has been tested with antibody test and didn't have anything showing up which is still inconclusive.

I'm an engineer, so I consider plausible worst cases. I don't own rose-tinted spectacles.

A false negative could lead to infecting others. Or newly-recruited healthcare call centre employees reading their script and saying "no matter how bad it has become in the past day, this bit of paper says you can't have covid".

Precisely.

When I had mine[1] it came with many "research project, not official result" and "do not change your behaviour when you see the result" exhortations.

[1]as a "Father of the 90s", which is unlikely to mean much to those overseas, even though the ALSPAC results will have changed overseas behaviour

Pleased to hear that at least you dodged that particular bullet. Let’s hope you have something that easier to get rid off, maybe a cold or flu?
