Before.  :--

After.  :-+ Circuit is an LM317T so I can vary the voltage and the speed for best cooling vs noise. The new fan is by no means silent but a hell of a lot quieter then original. I think if I find some sort of foam filter it will be even quieter. And even at a slow speed this fan pulls air much stronger than the original.

Going to install it and power up the Type 310A and check the results. :-/O

hey med

looks good except for one nit.

does the heat sink on that regulator get hot?  not a lot of thermal mass there......but maybe since directly in the air flow it is ok?

(calculating thermal transfer is something i claim to know almost nothing about.  could you stick one of your blue fingers on it just to satisfy my curiosity?  if you get scorched they say aloe is good for burns.)

I had the same concern. I checked it and it does get warm but not overly hot. I do have a larger heatsink I can bolt on if necessary. And yes, it gets LOTS of airflow.

The Type 310A has been on for a little over 2 hours and the results are remarkable. Prior to fan the top of the cabinet would get warm, well actually HOT, and if you left your hand on there you would sustain a burn. With the fan the entire outer cabinet of the Type 310A is barely warm to the touch. That much of a difference.  :-+

That is an excellent outcome, just a shame that the data sheet for that cooler never gave its CFM value, it would have cut out all of that awkwardness earlier   :-+

ooooooohkeyyyy ...
The Workstation is working so far. Butttttt.
When compared to an X570 creator board (such as the Asus Prime X570 or even the MSI X570A-Pro) the performance of that Intel 6 core sucks big time, the AMD 3600x is running circles around it.

Soooo, it's got to go.
taking one of my AMDs instead and listing it for flips.
Around 550 Pesos I'd guess w/ 16GB. Hell, I'll even throw in another hdd.

Why are you printing mini-BD139s?
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Looks like I'm going to have to go through the Beckman counter pictures individually later, to find out which one is triggering the forum software error when I try adding the second post about it.  |O

David

I had a similar issue the other day; I think it was more a matter of server load and something timing out rather than actually anything security related. There were lots of people on at the time, and it was a 1.5meg pic. I resized the pic and it went right through.

mnem

I had the same experience a few minutes ago with a photo that was just 428Mb  :palm:

Edit I meant 428Kb

New cheapo crimp tool and a box of cheapo ferrules arrived. Produces a good solid crimp even on 22 AWG. Grand total including delivery £12.99. Really nothing to complain about, looks like Chineknipex is a winner this time around.

(Unedited, uncropped, unrotated photo because the forum's latest image bug seems to throw a wobbler if I do any processing - despite the fact that the same toolchain caused no problems in the past.)

Well I've narrowed it down to one out of the eight pictures that it doesn't like, it has been cropped, rotated & resized, but then so have some of the others, don't think it's server load related as I had been trying to post it over two days.

This is a screen-grab of the offending picture.

I don't know, maybe lose a 30kg parcel in Tamworth last week, that a 24hour service was paid for.  :palm:  |O

Another ebay win, a Radix 3000 Doserate meter aka "geiger counter"
Picture on ebay indicated display problem  :-BROKE
But only £10 including postage and the tube is worth that.
It arrived today, well packed. Put a battery  in it and it all works  :-+
Second pic shows it registering ~20uSv/hr from a 1B22 spark gap tube. The 1B22 is NOS in box dated June 1945 and contains radium.
Radiation detectors (and sources  :scared: NOT) is anothey part of my hobby. I literally have hundreds of them from little bigger than a credit card to a 2 litre Thallium doped Sodium Iodide detector and gamma spectrometer that I can hardly pick up.

No there's a camera on it. No video - I checked. It takes one photo when a car is stopped apparently. Which is fucking stupid as it's no proof. On that basis two cars in the below picture should be fined  :-DD

Location (A310 West Middlesex hospital). Traffic up front is always rammed so when there's a gap you have to clear the entire junction, which is difficult when some cunt pulls out of the hospital into it even though they have no right of way.

Camera:

Got letter in post today. This happened on the 4th of Nov.
The trick is to roll through them incredibly slowly. If someone still blocks you and you have the right of way it's cheaper to just ram them and let their insurance pay.

Part two of the Beckman 6145 counter teardown.

I still need to convert it for UK mains, the transformer has the usual split primary windings so this shouldn't be too difficult, I'm going to wait for the manual first as it has some extra windings.
I'm not sure I like how they crammed the line filter in there, the power cord really needs replacing to as it's not in the best condition from being wrapped around the unit when they shipped it.  :palm:

The power supply/regulator section, I hope I don't need to change any of the can electrolytics as the wiring is quite a rats nest.

Lots of knackered looking wet tants  >:D on the EL supply board, both this & the regulator boards have had some repairs.

The crystal oven section, this differs from what is shown on the inside cover, as the extra board for the 1MHz divider is not shown (only one that faces the other way too), this board has also been repaired at some point.

More to follow....

ok, rebuilt a Ryzen 5 3600 as Workstation. Is about twice as fast in every aspect as a 9400F ...

Even though it does not have the extended temperature range whatever mainboard.

Well, actually it is page 2999 because they start counting with page 1, not page 0.  :)

No not any of that HEIC rubbish, just a JPG rotated & resized, I started again with the original picture and it worked fine the second time.
