Fun fact about Rowan Atkinson:

"Atkinson was brought up Anglican,[10] and was educated at Durham Choristers School, a preparatory school, and then at St Bees School. After receiving top-grades in science A levels,[11] he secured a place at Newcastle University, where he received a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.[12] In 1975, he continued for the degree of MSc in Electrical Engineering at The Queen's College, Oxford, the same college where his father matriculated in 1935,[13] and which made Atkinson an Honorary Fellow in 2006.[14] His MSc thesis, published in 1978, considered the application of self-tuning control.[15]"

Depends. To some people these things are meaningless.
I for myself are more after this:

"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." ~Albert Einstein

And regarding your mother's quote: She is right, kind of. But what isn't said about it, is: it is also a trade-off of dishonesty or lying. I don't like those quotes where one has to choose between two things, because to me this is not a valid choice. We are living in a world full of colours and not of black and white. Choosing between two things like this is imho always misleading and kinda wrong.

I think the 'right' or 'happy' quote is really trying to get to those who feel they have to speak out at any error seen, perhaps in today's parlance the 'woke' crowd - getting themselves in lots of arguments - not an uncommon issue for the early adulthood in any generation. The saying I feel has more applications is that 'everything you say has to be true but you don't always have to say it'.
Serious TEA drought here in Aus, nothing coming up locally.
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

To the German guys and gal.....

Been enjoying this video series. He purchased an abandon cottage in a lake side community in the former GDR. It is a fairly large lake. Are any of you familiar as to where this is located? Maybe I'm wrong but I would assume during GDR times that this lake side cottage would not be affordable by the average citizen but reserved for connected party officials only?

And really? Using power tools on Sunday is illegal? Does that include mowing your lawn? Is that a local law or nation wide?

Yes, yes, depends, nationwide.

Party officials only, but we are getting there again thanks to the Merkel Regime that sacrificed our middle class in the turn towards socialism plus corporations (the ones employing/paying party members to conduct business ...)
Power tools on Sunday are a no go unless you have your own house where nobody hears you. Unless you are arab and clan member, then you are allowed to do almost anything...

And as usual, as soon as I've put something in the watch list,
Code: [Select]
A discount from the seller! Was EUR 269.10, now EUR 8.10 off
Oh, come on. I'm not buying that unless it's under 200€. I'm just keeping track of my addiction with the watch list. Will let it rest for a bit, then counter-offer.

OTOH: on the hoarding side, an opportunity to double up on crucial equipment just surfaced. I love listings that aren't compatible with the string search in sales platforms, because of speling erorrs. Makes the audience smaller.

Plumbing update: The water authority just delegated the meter swap to the plumber, and also allowed them to turn the water back on. I have 10+ liters in containers on the kitchen countertop, and a full coffee Zojirushi.

I’ve got the day off today so I’m taking the kids to school then going back to bed  :-DD. This is one of the joys of having lots of holiday left. I’ve literally got to take 14 days off before end of December. Thus I choose Mondays  :-DD

Alas that probably won’t happen so I’m going to build some attenuators today.

Edit: actually no I’m not. I’m going to order some bits for a step attenuator

OK, cool. Over here if you move into a "gated community" or "HOA" (Home Owners Association) and they have rules regarding what you can do and when you can do it you sign a document agreeing to it. But other than that some local governments have noise ordinances which don't regulate what you can do but only regulate how much noise is allowed, usually between the hours of 2200 until 0800. But during the day, and regardless of the day of the week, it's game on short of explosions.  ;D

I kinda figured that lakeside cottage would be for the party elite only.

What made you think that a lakeside cottage / cabin would for the party Elite, I'd want something a bit bigger personally.

It's "Columbus Day" here and schools are closed as well as some other places. This is the day we supposedly celebrate Christopher Columbus "discovering" America. Despite the fact that people were already here, what we call "Native Americans". Over the last few years there have been calls to rip down all the statues dedicated to Columbus which has got the people of Italian descent all up in arms because he was Italian working for Spain.

Think. That was built during the time of communist rule. The "middle class" housing was probably smaller than that and I'm sure they couldn't afford a lakeside property. You had to be "connected" which means in good standing with the party. Socialism states that everyone is equal in the eyes of the state but we all know that's bullshit.

Well I didn't get my day off. Turns out someone fudged something so been called out :(

Edit: fire out. Thinking about snagging one of these. This is mostly to hold boards while I'm working on them because the infernal things keep disappearing due to the weight of test leads etc.

Anyone got any better solutions because it's the best part of 100 quid?  :scared:

Don't think so.
The lakeside property would have been a holiday place not a main residence. Only the elite would have more than one property available to them. Cabin was probably still nicer than the average middle class property at the time.

I'd do quick cheap experiments to find out what you really need, e.g. also holding leads/probes in place.

I'd start by searching for "quick release clamp" and choosing something that is the right size and heavy (i.e. metal). Toolstation/Screwfix are your friends.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

Yea I know, where does the stupidity end? Rip down all statues of Confederate General Robert E. Lee AND erase all references to him at West Point where he graduated in good standing as an officer in the US Army. There are groups who want to do that.

Hell...I say rip all statues down including the Statue of Liberty and throw them in the ocean.  :P :-DD
