Just ordered a tinySA from a drop shipper here. Place your bets: genuine article or clone already?

I want to get one too but got too many other "irons in the fire" at the moment including another project which should be here Monday. Maybe next month.

Not sure; it's probably paraffin. What do you use the stuff for?

Just cleaning metal and removing labels in the garage.

WD-40 is penetrating oil, not lubricating oil. Its purpose is to infiltrate rusty bits to help break them free. It is worthless as a lubricant; it evaporates too readily and the residue can actually cause galling in load-bearing surfaces.

Yes yes I know all that ... why do you think I lubricate anything with it. Did I mention I did? No.

I've had the same can of WD-40 since I quit working as a auto mechanic; really, it has no purpose on a technician's bench.  :-//

You are inferring way too much just because of the location I took the picture.  :palm:

But, to summarize - you do not know the answer to my question?  ::)

I just chickened out on a -- seemingly complete, ie. with probe and all -- TM 503 / AM 503 combo on the local auction site. Looking at the asking prices on the evil bay, I shoulda' kept at it. It went for 150 €.  Oh, drat.

There will be another.

But I wanted to know if the white component can be removed and still have it be useful for certain applications such as for example removing labels or cleaning metal.

It's only cheap because no one else bid. The winner may have had a max bid many times that on it.  I've  put 3 or 4 digit bids on items that I won for a few pounds.

   ppppppppttttpppppbbbbbllllppppppptttt!

Well, whether it needs that layer of monkey-cum depends on exactly what you're using it for, now doesn't it?  ;)

If, as I guess, it is paraffin... then yes, you can probably filter  it out for a) removing labels and 2) cleaning metals. If your intent is to oil the metal to prevent rust as well, probably best to leave the (presupposed for the sake of argument) paraffin in there, as it will lengthen the time it takes for the residue to evaporate.

TBH I might not bother. I don't need more than a couple of MHz at the moment.

Assume the approach is something along the lines of telnet in and frig something on the filesystem?

Got this PT100 temp probe on ebay today. Hopefully it was just a broken wire that made them chop the cord (it's IP67 so the repair will be intresting anyway). Marketing sheet also says food-safe stainless steel and the ablility to be traceably calibrated so I will just pray the element is still good and that I will be able to shoehorn a new cord on.  :-/O

In case you didn't know, this is how the ingredients in WD-40 settle in the can (or in a bottle LOL). You do have to shake the can before use (so it sayeth on the can).

The question is: Can I filter out the "white" stuff, or does the "white stuff" make it more betterer that it would be without it?

Thank you in advance.  :)

MSDS formulation for WD-40

50-60%  Naptha (Petroleum), hydrotreated heavy
<25%    Petroleum Base Oils
<10%    Naphtha (petroleum), hydrodesulfurized heavy
(contains: 1,2,4-Trimethyl benzene, 1,3,5-Trimethyl benzene, Xylene, Mixed Isomers)

Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

spent about 1 hour on the phone with Quadral, the manufacturer of those vintage speakers (hand built in 1986 ... whoa ...)

Took out the crossover. While the capacitors still look ok, I cannot tell if they indeed are. Furthermore, the values are not at all what Quadral would want them to be.
They quoted: 130 instead of 70, 47 instead of 56, 1 instead of 4.2, 5.2 instead of 4.2 (all uF).

Now would be a great time to take out the LCR meter and just start checking coils, capacitors and resistors and then adapting the crossover to what they expect it to be.

Which is probably what I am going to do.

*sigh*

If the capacitors turn out to have lost their oompf, it would most likely make sense to replace all of them. After 34 years or so I would expect them to  no longer be up to specs.

Yes in the Cattle Market. 20 years ago they had all sorts of stuff. Then the MOD changed the disposal process and it all went a bit weird. Heard a rumour that one of the owners/managers whatever got locked up for dodgy dealing. The burn down in the cattle market fire a few years ago.

I remember H Gee's in Mill Rd in the 80s.

I bought a meter there ti use as my Landie's fuel guage. Fun to think of fuel capacity being measured in Roentgens/hour :)

Gee followed Anchors example and burnt down last year. Ony place to buy components in Cambridge now is the Raspberry Pi shop in Grand Arcade.  |O

I only found out about Anchor Supplies a couple of years ago, I did go there about 6 months before the firework related arson that destroyed six business there, which started in Bed City (caught on CCTV).
They did have some test gear, including meters & a Tek TM50x series frame with modules and lots of parts stripped from various things. I left with a late 60's Tek 141 TV test signal generator & some Mil grade D cells for the shed radio.

wait! wait!

before you decant the clear stuff we would like to see a pic of what it looks like after you shake it.

remember "SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED"

(how long does it take the white stuff to settle to the bottom......minutes?  hours? months?)
