I've been having fun listening to the new crossband repeater that was installed on the ISS recently...caught one pass last night and two passes tonight with my HT and a relatively bad for the task log periodic. Have an Arrow dual band yagi coming though. Then I'm going to throw a little money at a radio with true full duplex for this LEO satellite stuff.  8)

Fortunately, the radio horizon from LEO is such that I doubt your locals would be able to be on when I'm on.  ;D

@med:

fixing those 2 tweeters is 130 € each.

The 2 crossovers, if I send them in: 250€. I guess I'll just source the parts ...

The woofer: have to ask how much my friend wants for reconing and recentering.
but tbh I think the crossover is dead as the tweeter fuse was blown in this speaker and the capacitors are well beyond EOL (about 15 years).

Bloody hell.
2 MKTs 70 uF, 250V, 5%, 2 MKPs 4.2 uF, 250V, 1 MKT 56 uF 250V per crossover.

All somewhat unobtainium.
This does not at all match the drawing I got for this crossover ...

Thinking of: 2 MKPs 68uF, 2 MKPs 4,2 uF, 1 MKP 56uF.

Does it matter if you substitute MKTs with MKPs ? 2x 68 uF seems to be not too far off the beam when looking at the schematic which states 130 for the woofer ...

I need to call the manufacturer.

also, those larger caps are 20 € a piece.
I am starting to think: why bother and just send it in for service and spit out the 125€ incl. parts ...

Now I hate that I do not have an LCR meter right here next to me.

68 uF is within tolerence for 70 uF I't have no problem subsituting MKP's.
This link http://quadrevisionspot.blogspot.com/2010/12/what-are-best-capacitors-for-audio.html
Suggests they are better for crossovers..

Yes in the Cattle Market. 20 years ago they had all sorts of stuff. Then the MOD changed the disposal process and it all went a bit weird. Heard a rumour that one of the owners/managers whatever got locked up for dodgy dealing. The burn down in the cattle market fire a few years ago.

I remember H Gee's in Mill Rd in the 80s.

I bought a meter there ti use as my Landie's fuel guage. Fun to think of fuel capacity being measured in Roentgens/hour :)

Gee followed Anchors example and burnt down last year. Ony place to buy components in Cambridge now is the Raspberry Pi shop in Grand Arcade.  |O

that is exactly why I moved to FreeCAD.
I'm definitively missing SolidWorks but as home user the license is too expensive.

Lerning FreeCAD now, it's not too bad. Yeah SW is another planet.

Frig.  Frig.  Frig.   I thought GPs were supposed to be good about not leaking. ...

They are, leastways I've never had a problem with them. I have, however, a sneaking suspicion that they have gained a good enough reputation, and a high enough profile, that someone may have started counterfeiting them. My latest batch of GPs, bought from a different source than I usually get them from, have exhibited suspiciously low capacity.
That is a very likely scenario I would say.

Ditto. For many years it was Radio Shack, or Radio Shack, or Radio Shack. All gone now. When I was teen we had Lafayette Radio (Bought the Sony ICF-5500W from them), several independent shops, and a huge surplus outlet in Kingston.

Possible. Not had any problems with any from Amazon yet i.e sourced from Amazon themselves not some other seller on their platform. That is apart from one PP3 that went open circuit. But rather that than short or rusty circuit :D

Edit: footnote. Never live in Nottingham City area. Total fucking shit hole of a place.

I used to know a guy who'd drive from Sheffield to Nottingham every Saturday night because he said it was easier to get laid there.

When the tram conductor body slammed her, the contents of her bag spilled everywhere and it was fairly obvious.

Made it downstairs under my own steam this morning; took me 5 minutes, but I did it and I was standing, not crawling.

I now have a hot breakfast, coffee and Tramadol courtesy the most amazing wife in the world... time to fortify myself and make believe I'm a educator for my daughter's sake. *long, deep sigh*
