Belarus  :palm:

I just had to do a crash course concerning the affairs of Belarus since the US media ignores world events and is only concerned with Chump and Congress.

I can see why the shit has hit the fan.  :o

At times like these a useful phrase is "Bad planning and decisions on your part do not constitute an emergency on my part".

The Cotswolds look inviting, don't they :)

Have fun  >:D

Too often in the US media "foreign" == "out of state".

May be offline for a few days  :--. Total shit show :scared:. Work crazy busy because our outsourcers are basically off line thanks to political instability. Also eldest got her GCSE teacher graded exam results today which were excellent but we don't know if the government are going to fuck up or do a U-turn etc or not yet because they're a sack of cunts who should be shot :(

Specmaster: will get back to you regarding those F25 organs when I get a few minutes  :-+

And, just in case they succeed, both Hungary and Poland are lining up to usurp democracy, so there will always be a totalitarian state somewhere in Europe.  One can argue that Hungary is there already.

The situation in UK can only be described as buggered, but that path into racist drama queen exile has at least been subjected to reasonably fair public vote, at least compared to what has happened in former eastern bloc countries.

So what you're saying is that we need some sort of "cunning plan" and, I don't know why I'm asking this, you have got one and you're going to tell us all about it. Come on then Baldrick Saskia, out with it!

That's not so much a cunning plan as a simple statement of what every Englishman thinks is the right thing to do. I suspect that what did for Hitler was not, as the history books claim, invading Poland, but invading France. Every Englishman turned around and went "Oi! That's our job. Right lads, let's get 'im".

And of course the rebuilder used all sensible precautions and connected the high voltage with - 4mm2 EARTH CABLE

I have a whole new respect for the HV insulation of Commando connectors.
:palm:
It looks like they used the Empirical Insulation technique: Turn up the voltage until it arcs through the wires, then wrap wherever it arcs with rubber tape 'til it stops.   :wtf:

I'm sure it's perfectly safe - NOT This is just a caution from the manual:

"CAUTION the output is floating at AC line voltage whenever the AC input is connected, regardless of whether the power supply is enabled." :palm: :scared:

So the PSU output will kill you even when it's "off". I've had lots of high voltage experence including homemade Ar-ion laser PSUs  but I won't be plugging this in
Apparently the original medical laser had a 5 kW isolation transfomer in the base........

Wait... What?!? You mean they couldn't even be arsed to route the mains through an appropriate multi-pole breaker FIRST...? Okay... that's not just bad engineering; that's a suicide box.  :palm:

Latest in my CR6-SE KickStarter Odyssey:

CReality has finally started shipping orders with add-ons. If they follow previous shipping schemes, mine will literally be in the very last batch they ship, even though I was one of the first to order and who gave them the most up front. People will be able to buy and receive retail before I get mine.  :palm:

If not for the fact I don't actually have an address for them to ship it to yet, I'd be totally pissed. ::)

The calibration/gain/compensation adjustments are complete for the Type 3A6 plug-in. It is now 100% functional.

And so.....

Back in May I started with this mess.

Took a while but the Type 561B is fully restored and 4 plug-in's repaired and 100% functional. Waveform from Type 114 Pulse Generator. On to the next project.  :-+

I have a deep loathing of X.509. Something that if done well would have been a real force for good in the digital world. It was ruined by building it on top of all the OSI crap, ASN.1 and a set of standards that were exactly the kind that offer the right set of optional features that almost guarantee that no two implementations of X.509 will be compatible without tweaking.

Have a look at Peter Gutman's home page. He's the go-to guy for X.509 resources and a harsh critic of X.509 but he knows how to make it work. It might not help at the moment, but it's a resource worth having for the future.

I have a deep loathing of X.509.

Simply mentioning the phrase "Distinguished Name" makes me want to kill something. An email adress like "mansaxel@besserwisser.org" is reasonably unique and as a naming structure delegatable and scalable. That must have been too easy, and also not Vogon Poetry Elegant and therefore Not Acceptable.

Yes, I hate it, too.
